blood trickling from a busted lip. The shock had

worn off, replaced by a dark, all-consuming fury.

He didn't care about rules anymore. He didn't

care about the audience. He was going to kill the

old man. He grabbed the heavy wooden handle

of the mop, staggering to his feet, raising it like a

baseball bat.

"I'm going to end you!" Julian screamed,

tears of rage in his eyes.

"Julian! STOP!"

The voice boomed through the dojo like a

thunderclap, echoing off the mirrored walls,

carrying an authority that demanded instant,

total obedience.

Everyone turned toward the entrance.

Standing in the doorway, a heavy canvas travel

bag dropped at his feet, was Sensei Kaito

Tanaka. He had returned from Asia a week early.

His face, usually a mask of calm composure, was

pale, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and

sheer horror as he took in the scene: his senior

black belt, battered and bleeding, wielding a

mop handle like a weapon against the night

janitor.

most profound bow the students had ever

witnessed. His torso was completely parallel to

the floor, his eyes fixed on Elias’s worn work

boots. He held the bow, entirely motionless, a

supreme display of ultimate submission and

respect.

Julian lowered the mop handle, his mouth

agape. The students stared, paralyzed with

confusion. Why was their Sensei bowing to the

janitor?

"Master Williams," Sensei Tanaka said, his

voice thick with emotion and profound

reverence. "I... I had no idea you were in the city.

I am deeply honored by your presence, and I am

unimaginably ashamed of what has transpired

in my dojo."

Elias looked at Tanaka, a small, gentle smile

touching the corners of his mouth. "Rise, Kaito,"

he said softly. "It is good to see you again. Your

technique has matured. Your dojo is beautiful."

Tanaka slowly straightened up, though he

kept his head slightly bowed, refusing to meet

Elias’s eyes directly out of respect. He turned

slowly toward his bewildered students, his gaze

finally falling upon Julian. The anger in Tanaka’s

eyes was terrifying.

"Fools," Tanaka whispered, his voice

vibrating with barely contained fury. "You

arrogant, blind fools." He pointed at Elias. "Do

you have any idea who this man is?"

The room was silent.

"This," Tanaka announced, his voice ringing

out clear and sharp, "is Grandmaster Elias

Williams. He is the founder of the very striking

system we practice. He was a three-time

undisputed world champion before any of you

were even born. He is a living legend, my own

master’s teacher, a man who has forgotten more

about martial arts than all of us combined will

ever learn. And you," Tanaka glared at Julian
