Before the sound of the blow fully registered in the room, Arthur’s head simply tilted a fraction of an inch to the left. Just enough. The wind of Leo’s glove ruffled the silver hairs on the old man's temple as the fist whistled past empty air by less than a millimeter.

Leo’s eyes widened in mild surprise, but he didn't break rhythm. Wham. He fired a heavy, crushing right cross intended to catch Arthur’s jaw on the rebound.

At the exact microsecond the fist arrived, Arthur’s upper torso leaned back with liquid, effortless grace—like a willow branch bending before a sudden gust of wind—and the right hand sailed harmlessly over his shoulder, missing by a hair.

"Whoa!" muttered a heavyweight sparring partner in the front row, taking an involuntary step back.

Leo gritted his teeth, a flash of irritation piercing his confidence. That was luck, he told himself. A flinch.

"Number three!" Leo snarled, unleashing a ferocious left hook aimed squarely at Arthur’s cheek.

Arthur didn't pull back. Instead, he dropped his center of gravity slightly, dipping his shoulder beneath the arc of the flying fist. The hook grazed nothing but empty space with a sharp whoosh.

By punch number four and five—a blistering double-jab to the chest—Leo was throwing with real intent, his breath turning ragged, his frustration boiling over into raw anger. But every time his fists shot forward, the target seemed to simply dissolve and reform a fraction of an inch outside his reach. It wasn't frantic scrambling; it was an eerie, supernatural economy of motion. Arthur moved with the absolute stillness of a mountain while the storm raged around him.

Chapter Five: The Ghost in the Ring

"What the hell are you doing?!" Leo roared, his face flushing crimson as punch number six and seven sliced through the air and met nothing.

The gym had gone completely, church-bell silent. The only sound was the heavy, frantic panting of the young champion and the soft, measured breathing of the elderly janitor. Every pair of eyes in the room was glued to the center of the floor, minds struggling to comprehend the physics of what they were witnessing. A twenty-four-year-old undefeated knockout artist was throwing absolute lightning, and an old man with his hands buried deep in his pockets was making him look like a blind amateur swinging at ghosts.

Coach Martinez stared, his mouth slightly open, a sudden, piercing realization dawning deep within his memory. He looked closer at Arthur’s stance, at the subtle way the old man shifted his weight from heel to toe, at the way his eyes remained locked not on Leo’s fists, but deep into Leo’s pupils, reading the twitch of a shoulder before the muscle even fired.
