Derek laughed.

“Afraid?”

Marcus shook his head.

“No.”

“Then why?”

“Because you're angry.”

Derek's expression changed.

Marcus continued.

“And angry people make mistakes.”

That sentence cut deeper than an insult.

Derek attacked.

The first strike was a right cross.

Marcus moved his head.

The second was a hook.

Marcus stepped outside.

Derek kicked.

Marcus caught the leg.

For one moment, Derek's balance disappeared.

Marcus released him.

Derek stumbled.

The room gasped.

Derek attacked again.

Faster.

Harder.

He threw combinations Marcus avoided with almost insulting ease.

Then Marcus stopped moving backward.

Derek punched.

Marcus redirected.

Derek's shoulder turned.

Marcus touched his elbow.

Derek's balance broke.

A second later, Derek was on the mat.

Marcus stood over him.

He didn't strike.

He didn't celebrate.

He simply said:

“Get up.”

Derek stared at him.

Marcus stepped back.

Derek got up.

He attacked again.

This time, Marcus caught his wrist.

He rotated.

Derek's body followed.

His arm was trapped.

His shoulder was exposed.

Marcus applied pressure.

Derek dropped to one knee.

“Tap.”

Derek refused.

Marcus increased pressure slightly.

“Tap.”

Derek's face tightened.

“Let go!”

“Tap.”

Derek slapped the mat.

The gym went completely silent.

Marcus released him immediately.

Derek rolled away, clutching his wrist.

Marcus stepped back.

No celebration.

No insult.

Nothing.

Then Sarah whispered:

“Who are you?”

Marcus looked at her.

And for the first time, he answered honestly.

“My name is Marcus Williams.”

Sarah almost laughed.

“I know your name.”

Marcus looked toward the students.

“What you don't know is that I spent twenty years learning how to fight.”

One of the students whispered:

“Twenty years?”

Marcus nodded.

“I stopped because I learned something more important.”

Derek slowly stood.

“What?”

Marcus looked directly at him.

“How to control myself.”

Derek's face had gone pale.

Marcus continued.

“And that's something you never learned.”

The File in the Office

The story should have ended there.

It didn't.

Because Derek Stone couldn't accept humiliation.

He left the cage and stormed into his office.

Marcus returned to the janitorial closet.

He put on his gloves.

He picked up his mop.

He began cleaning.

The students watched him as if he were a completely different person.

But Marcus was still the same man.

Only the illusion had disappeared.

Sarah followed him.

“Marcus.”

He kept mopping.

“Yes?”

“Twenty years?”

“Yes.”

“Where?”

Marcus stopped.

“Everywhere.”

“That doesn't answer the question.”

“No.”

Sarah folded her arms.

“Are you a former professional fighter?”

Marcus shook his head.

“Not exactly.”

“Military?”

Marcus paused.

“Yes.”

Sarah's expression changed.

“Special operations?”

Marcus didn't answer.

She understood.

“You were involved in some kind of elite program.”

Marcus resumed cleaning.

“I trained people.”

“How many?”

“Enough.”

Sarah watched him.

“Why become a janitor?”

Marcus looked at the floor.

“Because I wanted a quiet life.”

Sarah lowered her voice.

“Does your family know?”

Marcus nodded.

“My mother did.”

“Did?”

“She passed away.”

Sarah softened.

“I'm sorry.”

Marcus nodded.

“Thank you.”

Before she could say anything else, the office door opened.

Derek stepped out.

His wrist was wrapped.

His face was furious.

“Everybody out.”

The students hesitated.

“Now!”

They began leaving.

Marcus continued cleaning.

Derek pointed at him.

“You too.”

Marcus looked up.

“This is my shift.”

“Your shift is over.”

Marcus nodded.

“Okay.”

He pushed his cart toward the rear exit.

As he passed Derek, Derek whispered:

“You think you won.”

Marcus stopped.

“No.”

“Then what was that?”

“A warning.”

Derek's jaw tightened.

Marcus walked away.

The next morning, Derek called a meeting with his lawyers.

He wanted Marcus fired.

Immediately.

But there was a problem.

Sarah had already reported the incident to the academy's ownership board.

Iron Forge wasn't entirely Derek's personal property.

Several investors owned shares.

And one of those investors had seen the footage.

The footage spread quickly.

By noon, everyone in Phoenix's combat-sports community had heard about the janitor who controlled Derek Stone inside the cage.

By evening, the video had gone viral.

But something unexpected happened.

Someone recognized Marcus.

A retired coach named Raymond Ellis watched the video three times.

Then he froze.

“No.”

He searched an old database.

There it was.

Marcus Williams.

Former instructor.

Elite combat-training consultant.

National grappling champion.

Specialized defensive tactics instructor.

Multiple international seminars.

Raymond stared at the screen.

Then he called Sarah.

“Where is he?”

“Who?”

“Marcus.”

Sarah hesitated.

“Why?”

Raymond's voice became serious.

“Because that man isn't just a good fighter.”

“What is he?”

“A teacher.”

Meanwhile, Derek was preparing revenge.

He announced a special exhibition event.

The biggest event Iron Forge had ever hosted.

Sponsors were invited.

Media was invited.

Professional fighters were invited.

And Derek made one announcement publicly.

“Iron Forge believes in proving yourself.”

Then he looked directly into the camera.

“And I intend to prove that one lucky exchange doesn't make a janitor a fighter.”

Marcus watched the video from his apartment.

He turned off the screen.

He had no interest in fighting Derek again.

But the next day, Jamal came to his door.

Marcus opened it.

“Jamal?”

The teenager looked nervous.

“Can I talk to you?”

“Of course.”

Jamal stepped inside.

“I want to quit Iron Forge.”

Marcus nodded.

“I understand.”

“But I don't want to quit fighting.”

Marcus smiled.

“Good.”

“Can you train me?”

Marcus was silent.

“Please.”

Marcus looked at the boy.
