The crowd gasped collectively, several older businessmen in the audience recognizing the veteran instantly.

Julian’s breath hitched in his throat. He recognized the man immediately from the covers of international financial journals and global economic summits.

It was Arthur Vance. The legendary chief executive officer and personal trustee of the Vance Syndicate—the multi-billion-dollar global conglomerate that owned massive holdings in international shipping, private banking, media networks, and urban real estate developments across three continents.

Victoria Sterling’s breath caught in her chest. Her face turned remarkably pale. The Vance Syndicate was an unstoppable financial colossus. In comparison, her family's Sterling Group was merely a regional player, a small fish swimming in a pond owned almost entirely by the Vance empire.

Arthur Vance paid absolutely no attention to Victoria or the stunned crowd. He adjusted his silk necktie, turned toward the modest wooden sandwich stand, and walked forward with deep, measured steps.

Elena stepped out from behind the small wooden counter. Her posture was erect, her eyes calm, and her entire aura transformed in an instant. Gone was the unassuming, quiet street vendor; in her place stood a woman of immense, effortless authority.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, Arthur," Elena said casually, her tone light and familiar.

The legendary billionaire executive stopped two paces in front of her. In front of fifty gaping onlookers, Arthur Vance bowed his head deeply and respectfully to the young woman in the simple cream sweater.

"Think nothing of it, Miss Vance," Arthur replied smoothly, his deep voice carrying clearly over the dead silence of the park. "Everything has been prepared according to your exact instructions. The executive board has been assembled, and the documents are ready for your final signature."

The street fell into an absolute, suffocating stillness.

Julian stood completely frozen, his heart pounding against his ribs like a trapped bird. His mind reeled, trying to piece together the unbelievable scene playing out before his eyes.

"…What is going on?" Julian whispered, his voice trembling with sheer disbelief.

Elena slowly turned her head back toward him. The soft, gentle demeanor she had maintained over the past three months was no longer there—replaced instead by a radiant, terrifying confidence. She looked exquisite, powerful, and utterly untouchable.

"I wanted to see if you loved me without knowing who I really am, Julian," Elena said quietly, her eyes locking onto his with profound intensity. "I wanted to know if a man in your position could love a woman simply for her soul, her mind, and her heart—without the titles, without the money, and without the social pressure."

She paused, taking a step toward him.

"And you did," she added softly. "You proved that today. You stood up to the world, and to your own blood, for a girl you thought had nothing to her name."

Elena’s gaze shifted slowly away from Julian, settling on Victoria Sterling.

The sharp, terrifying matriarch of the Sterling empire stood entirely frozen on the pavement, her formidable confidence utterly shattered into dust. Her hand trembled violently against her designer handbag, her mouth slightly open, completely devoid of the sharp insults she had spewed just minutes earlier.

"But," Elena continued, her voice turning as cold as arctic ice, "not everyone passed the test."

Victoria swallowed hard, her throat dry, her pristine composure melting away into absolute panic. She looked at Arthur Vance, then back at Elena, realizing with terrifying clarity the colossal mistake she had just made.

"Who… who are you?" Victoria asked, her voice cracking, barely audible above the gentle evening breeze.

Elena smiled faintly, a small, knowing expression that carried the full weight of her family’s historic wealth.

"My name is Elena Vance," she said calmly. "My family’s estate owns more than half of this entire commercial district. Including the land beneath this park, the avenue you drove in on, and…" She paused, letting the silence hang heavily in the autumn air. "…The primary holding firm that controls seventy percent of the debt obligations for the Sterling Group."

The announcement hit the air like a thunderclap.

Victoria’s knees visibly buckled. She staggered back a half-step, grasping frantically at the open door of her sports sedan to keep herself from collapsing onto the pavement.
