"It isn't."
"My name is Amelia Grant."
Richard waited.
Then she added:
"I'm the chief executive officer of Horizon Mobility Group."
The silence became absolute.
Daniel's phone was still recording.
Vanessa's face had gone white.
Richard looked as though someone had removed the floor beneath his feet.
"No."
Amelia didn't respond.
"No," he repeated.
"You can't be."
"I am."
"You're lying."
Amelia tilted her head.
"Then call your corporate office."
Richard reached for his phone.
His hands were shaking.
For the first time since she entered the showroom, Richard Calloway looked afraid.
The Contract Dies on the Marble Floor
Richard called the manufacturer.
The call lasted less than a minute.
When he ended it, he didn't speak.
Vanessa watched him.
"What did they say?"
Richard stared at his phone.
"They're reviewing the contract."
Daniel understood immediately.
The deal was real.
Everything Amelia had said was real.
A $5 billion agreement had just disappeared.
Richard looked at Amelia.
"You can't do this."
"I already did."
"This dealership needs that contract."
"I know."
"You would destroy hundreds of jobs."
Amelia's expression softened.
"I didn't destroy anything."
Richard stared at her.
"You did."
"No."
She took one step forward.
"You did."
The room was silent.
Amelia continued.
"I came here because I was prepared to trust this dealership with five billion dollars of Horizon's business."
She looked around.
"I wanted to know what kind of company we were partnering with."
Her eyes returned to Richard.
"I received my answer."
Richard shook his head.
"This is retaliation."
"No."
"You're trying to ruin me."
"No."
"Then why?"
Amelia paused.
"Because money can be recovered."
She looked at the people around her.
"Trust cannot."
Richard's face reddened.
He pointed at her.
"You think you can walk in here and humiliate me?"
Amelia almost smiled.
"I haven't humiliated you."
She glanced toward the phone in Daniel's hand.
"You did that yourself."
Richard saw the phone.
"Stop recording!"
Daniel shook his head.
"No."
Richard's expression hardened.
"You're fired."
Daniel didn't move.
Richard repeated it.
"You're fired."
Daniel looked at Amelia.
Then at the guests.
Then back at Richard.
"No."
Richard stepped forward.
"What did you say?"
"I said no."
"You don't tell me no."
Daniel's voice remained calm.
"Maybe I don't work for you anymore."
Richard laughed bitterly.
"Who do you think you are?"
Daniel raised his phone.
"Someone who knows what happened here."
A woman near the entrance spoke.
"He should keep recording."
Another customer nodded.
"I agree."
A third person lifted her phone.
"So do I."
Within minutes, almost everyone in the showroom had their phones out.
Richard looked around.
He suddenly understood.
The room had changed.
Minutes earlier, he had controlled everything.
Now every word he spoke was being documented.
Every insult.
Every accusation.
Every command.
Every second of his collapse.
Vanessa stepped closer to him.
"Richard..."
He ignored her.
He was still trying to maintain control.
"You cannot cancel a contract worth five billion dollars because of a misunderstanding."
Amelia looked at him.
"This wasn't a misunderstanding."
"You came here dressed like—"
He stopped.
Amelia waited.
"Like what?"
Richard said nothing.
She continued.
"Say it."
His face tightened.
"That isn't what I meant."
"It is exactly what you meant."
A man in a gray suit spoke from the crowd.
"We all heard it."
A woman beside him nodded.
"So did I."
Another customer said:
"You told her she didn't belong."
Richard turned toward them.
"Stay out of this."
The man shook his head.
"You made it everyone's business."
Amelia remained quiet.
She didn't need to defend herself anymore.
The witnesses were doing it.
The young salesman was still filming.
A livestream had begun.
Viewers were joining by the hundreds.
Daniel looked at the screen.
"People are watching."
Richard's eyes narrowed.
"Turn it off."
Daniel shook his head.
"No."
"Do you understand what you're doing?"
"Yes."
Daniel looked directly at him.
"I'm making sure nobody can pretend this didn't happen."
Amelia glanced toward Daniel.
There was something in her expression.
Approval.
Not because he had defended her.
Because he had chosen truth over convenience.
She had seen employees remain silent when powerful people behaved badly.
She had seen managers protect reputations instead of people.
She had seen witnesses turn away.
Daniel hadn't.
Richard suddenly looked at the guards.
"Remove them."
One guard remained still.
"Sir?"
"Remove her."
The guard looked at Amelia.
Then at Richard.
Then at the crowd.
"I'm sorry, sir."
Richard's voice rose.
"What?"
"We're not touching her."
Richard's face became furious.
"You work for me!"
The guard shook his head.
"I did."
That sentence destroyed what remained of Richard's authority.
The other guard stepped forward.
"Corporate security just contacted us."
Richard stared at him.
"What did they say?"
The guard hesitated.
"Your access is being reviewed."
Richard's breathing became shallow.
"That's impossible."
