“No,” Madison whispered, shaking her head frantically, her blonde hair flying around her pale face. “No, that’s insane! You’re making it up! It’s a conspiracy! Ethan, make him stop!”

Ethan wasn’t looking at her. His eyes were glued to the document in Adrian’s hand, his pupils dilated with sudden, primal terror. He was beginning to realize that the life he had built—the wealth, the social prestige, the new family, the foundation stolen from my hands—was built on a foundation of sand, and the tide had finally come in.

“You see,” I said softly, stepping closer to Ethan until I could smell the expensive cologne he wore—the exact same scent he had worn on the night he told me I was broken, the night he told me my body was a failure. “You didn’t leave me because I couldn’t have children, Ethan. You left me because Madison was already pregnant with your child, and Dr. Vance needed to fabricate a medical defect in me so you could divorce me without financial penalty, seize the charity foundation, and marry the daughter of the man who saved your company from bankruptcy.”

Ethan’s face drained of every drop of color until he looked like a corpse under the white lights. His lips parted, but no words came out. The smug, arrogant man who had sneered at me minutes ago had vanished, replaced by a cornered animal realizing there was no escape hatch.

“And that’s just the beginning,” Adrian added quietly, turning to the next page of the file. “Because the falsification of medical records to induce psychological distress and fraudulent divorce settlements isn’t just a civil matter in this state, Mr. Sterling. It’s a federal felony.”

The silence that followed was absolute. No nurses walked by. No elevators chimed. The entire world seemed to shrink down to the four of us standing in that hospital corridor, caught between the echoes of a ruined past and the terrifying, beautiful certainty of justice.
