Blake staggered back as if I had struck him across the face. The harsh fluorescent lights of the airport terminal caught the sudden sheen of panic in his eyes. For years, he had lived as an undisputed king of industry, a man who controlled markets, politicians, and media narratives with a flick of his wrist. But standing here on the Chicago pavement, surrounded by the three living, breathing pieces of his legacy that he had nearly destroyed, his armor disintegrated into dust.

"Get in the car, boys," I said softly, opening the heavy rear door of the Bentley.

The driver, an old family friend named Marcus who had secretly stayed loyal to me after the divorce, gave Blake a stony, unblinking glare before sliding behind the steering wheel. One by one, my three bright, beautiful boys climbed into the leather-lined interior, their wide eyes curiously examining the man standing outside.

I turned to follow them, my hand resting on the door handle.

"Emma, wait," Blake whispered, his voice cracking with a desperate vulnerability I had never heard in him during all our years together. He lunged forward, catching the edge of the door before I could pull it shut. "Please. We need to talk. You can't just... you can't keep them from me. They're my sons."

I looked down at his hand gripping the cold metal, then slowly raised my gaze to meet his. The air between us felt charged with a volatile energy, the kind of static electricity that precedes a massive storm.

"You lost the right to call them yours five years ago, Blake," I said, my voice dropping to a harsh, icy whisper that made him flinch. "And believe me when I say this—what you saw today at the airport is just chapter one. You spent years looking for secrets in my phone. Now, you're going to find out what happens when the real secrets come home to roost."
