Julian refused to answer, but the officer found his wallet. A few seconds later, the radio crackled.

“Unit 4, be advised. Julian Vance has two outstanding felony warrants in the state of New York for wire fraud and grand larceny. Suspect is considered a flight risk.”

I couldn't help but smile. Claire hadn't just blown up our marriage for a new lover; she had blown it up for a wanted con artist.

"Well, well," the officer smirked, locking the cuffs tightly onto Julian's wrists. "Looks like you're going away for a long time, Julian."

Evelyn was shaking with rage. "You can't do this! Who is going to take care of the newborn? David is a monster, you can't leave the baby with him!"

The lead officer looked at Evelyn with absolute disdain. "You were in the room, ma'am. You watched a child freeze and drank wine. You're coming down to the station for questioning as an accessory." He turned to the third officer. "Call Child Protective Services. Have them pick up the infant. He’s going into emergency foster care tonight."
