"I don’t care what your name is, or what lies you're spinning," Braddock sneered. "You have no ID displayed, you're trying to breach a highly secure area, and you're giving me attitude. Walk out those doors right now, or we’re going to have a serious problem."

Marcus’s demeanor cooled, the polite corporate mask slipping away to reveal the hardened steel beneath. "The only problem here, officer, is that you are impeding the legal owner of this building from entering his own property. You are doing this based entirely on your flawed perception of my attire and my skin color. That is a violation of my civil rights, and frankly, you are wasting my very valuable time."

"Owner?" Braddock laughed harshly, the sound devoid of humor. "Yeah, sure. And I'm the Mayor. Last chance. Walk away."

Marcus held his ground. He knew that retreating would only validate the officer's unfounded arrogance. Deliberately, keeping his movements smooth and telegraphed, he raised his wrist to the optical scanner.

A crisp, pleasant chime rang out. The LED indicator flashed a bright, welcoming green, and the high-definition screen mounted on the turnstile boldly announced: "Welcome, Mr. Sterling. Access granted: All Levels. Security Clearance: Omega."

Braddock stared at the screen, his mind violently rejecting the digital proof. "That's a stolen pass!" he yelled, logic entirely bypassed by adrenaline and deeply ingrained prejudice. Acting purely on aggressive instinct, Braddock lunged forward, grabbing a fistful of Marcus’s gray hoodie by the shoulder and jerking him backward.

"Don't touch me," Marcus commanded. His voice was devoid of panic, but it was laced with an absolute, icy authority that would have made his board of directors tremble. He pulled his arm away with a sharp, practiced motion, breaking the officer's grip.

"That's it. You're resisting. You're under arrest," Braddock declared, his face flushing red as he escalated a minor misunderstanding into a physical altercation.

At that exact moment, with impeccable timing, the polished steel doors of the main elevator bank slid open with a soft ding. Maria and John, the weekend janitorial staff, stepped out pushing a heavy utility cart. They froze in their tracks. Their eyes widened in absolute horror as they watched the man who personally ensured their children's college funds and paid their generous Christmas bonuses being manhandled by law enforcement.
