Celeste looked toward the pillow.
A faint gray smear marked the fabric near Elias’s shoulder.
She pinched the clean edge of the pillowcase and pulled until a narrow strip tore free.
“What are you doing?” Gabriel asked through the door.
“Preserving what may have touched him.”
The handle stopped moving.
Elias opened his eyes fully. “You see it.”
“I see residue. I don’t know what it is.”
