Vivian had placed it on Evelyn’s lap.
Inside was a temporary delegation of authority, a revised occupancy agreement, and a statement that Evelyn’s medical condition prevented her from administering the Hart estate. The papers would have given Grant control over the property, its operating accounts, its staff, its archives, and the private family office in the east wing.
The documents used the word temporary seventeen times.
None of the termination clauses contained a date.
Evelyn looked toward the matte-black security panel mounted beside the glass doors. Its circular light glowed blue.
“Give me my phone,” she said.
Grant smiled.
It was a tired smile, almost affectionate. “You don’t need it.”
“It’s on the console.”
“I know where it is.”
“Then give it to me.”
Vivian shifted the folder against her ribs. “Evelyn, we can have your attorney review the documents after you sign the medical authorization.”
