Bank records.

Photographs.

Names.

Payments.

Everything.

Frank turned one page.

His hands began to shake.

Not from fear.

From anger.

At the bottom of one document was the name of the man who had betrayed them in 1994.

Frank whispered:

"Michael Dawson."

Garrett froze.

"My brother."

Frank looked at him.

Garrett's face collapsed.

"That's impossible."

"He was there."

"He died in 2001."

"Apparently he lived long enough to leave us the truth."

They continued reading.

Michael Dawson had been working with Kane.

But there was another name above him.

Victor Blackwood.

Frank closed his eyes.

The circle was complete.

Cole wasn't the mastermind.

He was the son of the man who had survived the original scandal.

And Frank had made a terrible mistake.

He had underestimated how far the past could reach.

The Ride Back

That evening, Frank received a phone call.

Cole.

"Old man."

Frank sat on the porch of his small house.

"What do you want?"

"You know what I want."

Frank looked toward the Road King.

"Come get it."

Silence.

Then Cole laughed.

"You think you're tough."

"No."

Frank paused.

"I think you're young."

Cole's laughter stopped.

"You don't know who you're dealing with."

Frank's voice remained calm.

"I know exactly who I'm dealing with."

Cole hung up.

An hour later, twelve motorcycles appeared outside Frank's property.

Cole climbed off his bike.

Frank stood alone on the porch.

Garrett stood behind him.

Cole looked around.

"This is your last chance."

Frank smiled faintly.

"For what?"

"Give us the evidence."

"You came all this way for paper?"

Cole stepped forward.

"No."

He pointed at Frank.

"We came for you."

Frank looked at the twelve riders.

Then at Cole.

"You brought twelve men."

"You're one man."

Frank nodded.

"That's true."

He stepped off the porch.

"And you still don't understand."

Cole moved first.

He swung.

Frank blocked the punch.

The movement was so fast that Cole barely understood what had happened.

Frank stepped inside his reach, turned his wrist, and dropped him onto the dirt.

The other riders froze.

Frank didn't chase him.

Didn't kick him.

Didn't gloat.

He simply said:

"Go home."

Cole rose slowly.

His face was red with humiliation.

He charged again.

This time Frank moved differently.

One step.

A pivot.

A controlled strike.

Cole hit the ground.

Silence.

The younger riders stared.

Frank looked at them.

"I don't want to fight you."

One of them lowered his fists.

Another stepped backward.

Cole screamed:

"Get him!"

Nobody moved.

That was the moment Cole understood something.

Fear wasn't power.

Loyalty was.

And he had none.

Frank turned toward him.

"Your father lied to you."

Cole stared.

"What?"

"Ask him about Victor Kane."

Cole's expression changed.

Frank continued.

"Ask him about Danny Whitfield."

Cole went pale.

"How do you know that name?"

"Because I watched him die."

Cole stared at Frank.

For the first time, the arrogance disappeared.

Something human remained.

Fear.

Not fear of Frank.

Fear of the truth.

Later that night, Cole confronted his father.

Victor was sitting in the kitchen.

Cole threw the documents onto the table.

"You killed him?"

Victor didn't answer.

"Danny Whitfield."

Silence.

"You killed him?"

Victor looked at his son.

"No."

Cole's fists tightened.

"Then who?"

Victor whispered:

"Your uncle."

Cole stopped breathing.

"Michael?"

Victor nodded.

"He was the one who shot him."

Cole stepped backward.

"My whole life..."

Victor said nothing.

"My whole life you told me strength meant taking what you wanted."

Victor looked away.

"And you believed me."

Cole's voice broke.

"You made me into this."

"No."

Victor looked at him.

"You chose."

The words destroyed him.

Because they were true.

The Last Ride

Frank didn't want revenge.

He wanted the truth.

There was a difference.

For thirty-one years, he had carried Danny's death like a stone in his chest.

He had blamed himself.

He had wondered whether he should have acted sooner.

Whether he should have protected Danny.

Whether walking away had been cowardice.

Now he knew.

Danny had not wanted revenge.

He had wanted Frank to remain human.

So Frank decided to finish the job Danny had started.

He contacted federal investigators.

He turned over the documents.

He gave them the tape.

He gave them everything.

Within days, warrants were issued.

Victor Blackwood was arrested.

Several former officials were implicated.

Old financial records were reopened.

Names long forgotten appeared in newspapers.

But Cole was different.

He went to Frank's house one morning.
