Selective enforcement became Brenda’s favorite tool. Then, she discovered my fuel pump.

She arrived one morning in designer heels, clicking across my driveway. She began asking about zoning compliance, environmental rules, and something she made up called “community resource equity.” I produced the permits, the inspection reports, and the agricultural documentation. Her face soured.

Within a week, I received a $500 fine for "unauthorized commercial activity." I prepared a written response showing that the installation predated my ownership and remained lawfully permitted. I delivered it personally, assuming facts would end the matter.

I was wrong. People like Brenda are not trying to determine what is correct. They simply want to win.

Three days later, Brenda called an emergency HOA board meeting. The community center smelled like stale coffee and decades of neighborhood arguments. Around thirty residents sat in squeaky folding chairs.

Brenda had prepared a PowerPoint presentation about my fuel pump, featuring photographs with red arrows and large text reading: EXPLOSION RISK. ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. She described catastrophic scenarios, acting like my private property was going to level the county.

"I move for an immediate one-thousand-dollar fine and a forty-eight-hour removal deadline," Brenda announced.

That was when I stood up. "Before you vote, perhaps we should review actual evidence."
