Karen looked at her.

“You gave her those?”

Mrs. Henderson swallowed.

“Yes.”

Karen stared at her.

“How could you?”

Mrs. Henderson's voice trembled.

“Because it was wrong.”

Karen shook her head.

“You were my friend.”

“I was.”

The room became silent.

Sarah didn't feel victorious.

She felt sad.

Because she realized how easily fear could turn neighbors against one another.

Mrs. Davies reviewed the evidence.

Then she asked Sarah:

“Do you have documentation concerning the property damage?”

“Yes.”

“And the mailbox?”

“Yes.”

“Security footage?”

“Not of the original incident.”

Sarah explained that the cameras had been installed afterward.

Mrs. Davies nodded.

“That distinction is important.”

Sarah appreciated it.

She wasn't asking anyone to believe her simply because she spoke confidently.

She wanted the facts examined.

Then Mrs. Davies turned toward Karen.

“Do you have evidence supporting your claims?”

Karen hesitated.

“No.”

“Any photographs?”

“No.”

“Witness statements?”

Karen looked around.

Nobody spoke.

The room had changed.

Karen had spent weeks shaping public opinion.

But now the people she had influenced were being asked for evidence.

And there wasn't any.

Karen sat down.

For the first time since Sarah had met her, she looked uncertain.

Sarah stood beside the projector.

She displayed the first screenshot.

Then the second.

Then the third.

The room remained silent.

Karen interrupted repeatedly.

“This is taken out of context.”

“That isn't what I meant.”

“You don't understand.”

But each explanation created another problem.

The screenshots showed the dates.

The comments.

The responses.

The progression.

The board members could see how the rumors had developed.

Sarah then displayed photographs of her mailbox.

“This was discovered the morning after the party.”

She paused.

“I cannot prove who physically damaged it. I am not making that accusation as a fact.”

Karen looked surprised.

Sarah continued.

“But I can prove that it was damaged after the confrontation, and I can prove that false allegations about me appeared afterward.”

Mrs. Davies nodded.

“That distinction matters.”

Sarah appreciated that.

She wanted accountability, not revenge.

Karen finally spoke.

“You've destroyed my reputation.”

Sarah looked at her.

“I didn't create these posts.”

“You showed them to everyone!”

“They were already written.”

Karen's face reddened.

“You've humiliated me.”

Sarah's voice remained calm.

“You said things about me that weren't true.”

“That doesn't mean—”

“It does.”

Sarah took a breath.

“You had the right to be angry with me. You had the right to disagree with my decision. You had the right to think I was rude.”

She paused.

“But you did not have the right to manufacture a story about me.”

The room remained silent.

Mrs. Davies finally spoke.

“The board will review the material.”

Karen looked defeated.

Sarah returned to her seat.

The meeting wasn't over.

But something important had already happened.

The story no longer belonged entirely to Karen.

The HOA board spent several days reviewing the documentation.

Sarah did not post about the meeting.

She didn't celebrate.

She didn't attack Karen.

She waited.

That restraint mattered.

Residents began approaching her privately.

One neighbor apologized.

Another admitted she had believed Karen.

A third said she had always been uncomfortable with the rumors but hadn't known what to do.

Then Mrs. Henderson spoke publicly.

“I should have questioned the story earlier.”

Her statement changed the atmosphere.

Karen's version of events had depended heavily on people remaining silent.

Once people began speaking honestly, the story collapsed.

The HOA issued a written response.

It did not declare Sarah a perfect person.

It did not declare Karen a monster.

Instead, it stated that residents were expected to avoid harassment, false accusations, and property interference.

Karen received a formal warning.

The complaint against Sarah was dismissed.

Sarah read the letter twice.

Khloe smiled.

“That's it?”

Sarah nodded.

“That's enough.”

“What about Karen?”

Sarah looked out the window.

“I don't care anymore.”

Khloe laughed softly.

“That's probably the best revenge.”

Sarah shook her head.

“It's not revenge.”

She thought about the months she had spent making her home beautiful.

The pool.

The flowers.

The patio.

The garden.

She had built the place because she wanted peace.

She didn't want to spend the next five years fighting with a neighbor.
