Richard’s eyes tracked her hand, his brain too short-circuited by shock to protest as she lifted the hundred thousand dollars off the mahogany table. Maya slid the heavy stack of cash deep into the front pocket of her black leather apron.
She looked down at the shattered CEO one last time, a faint, victorious smile finally gracing her lips.
"Keep the change," Maya murmured.
Without waiting for a response, she turned her back on the corner booth, the heavy brass rivets of her apron catching the morning light, and walked calmly back to the espresso machine to finish her shift.
