I rose slowly.
My knees were steady by the time I stood.
Harrison lifted one hand, warning me not to “make this worse.”
That almost made me laugh.
Worse was already wearing my robe.
I removed my wedding ring.
Placed it firmly on the broken nightstand.
The small click of metal against marble sounded louder than Harrison’s shove.
His eyes dropped to it.
Then narrowed.
“What are you doing?”
I took my encrypted smartphone from the inner pocket of my white pantsuit.
Chloe’s eyes flicked to the screen.
Harrison gave a dismissive laugh.
“Go ahead. Call your lawyers. Call the board. Call whoever you need to make this look like power.”
I opened the black encrypted app my father’s office had built for emergencies he hoped I would never face.
