The officer nodded.
“Understood.”
And they continued walking.
The Passenger Speaks
At the aircraft door, Captain Marcus Rivera appeared.
“What is the delay?”
Monica rushed toward him.
“Passenger ticket issue.”
Captain Rivera looked at Amara.
Something about the situation bothered him.
She wasn't yelling.
She wasn't threatening anyone.
She wasn't resisting.
She simply looked… disappointed.
“How long will this take?” he asked.
“Just a few more minutes.”
A businessman from first class stood.
“Captain, I have a connecting flight. What's going on?”
“We're handling a passenger verification issue,” Monica said.
The man looked at Amara.
“I saw her boarding pass. It looked legitimate.”
Jessica immediately interrupted.
“Sir, you don't understand. People try to sneak into first class all the time.”
The businessman frowned.
“People?”
Jessica hesitated.
The woman recording everything finally spoke.
“What exactly makes her suspicious?”
Nobody answered.
She continued.
“She's black. She's in first class. She's sitting quietly. Is that the evidence?”
Silence.
Jessica's face turned red.
“This has nothing to do with race.”
“Then verify the ticket.”
Another silence.
The Truth Appears
The flight was now delayed.
Operations demanded answers.
Finally, ground supervisor Carl Hendris arrived.
“What exactly is the problem?”
“Possible fraudulent ticket,” Monica said.
Carl looked at Amara.
Then at the boarding pass.
“Has anyone actually checked the reservation?”
Monica hesitated.
“I'm trying.”
“Try harder.”
She opened the airline's reservation system.
Her fingers moved across the screen.
Then stopped.
Her face changed.
Carl noticed.
“What?”
Monica didn't answer.
“What does it say?”
She swallowed.
“The ticket is legitimate.”
Carl stepped closer.
“Paid in full?”
“Yes.”
“Seat?”
“2A.”
“Passenger?”
Monica looked up.
Her voice was barely audible.
“Dr. Amara Johnson.”
Carl froze.
“Johnson?”
“Yes.”
“Johnson Capital?”
Monica nodded.
Carl's face went pale.
He pulled out his phone.
He searched the morning's VIP passenger list.
There it was.
DR. AMARA JOHNSON — CEO, JOHNSON CAPITAL PARTNERS
CONFIDENTIAL BOARD MEETING
STRATEGIC INVESTMENT DISCUSSION — $1.2 BILLION
Carl stared at the screen.
Then he looked at Amara.
“Oh no.”
The Revelation
Captain Rivera approached.
“What happened?”
Carl couldn't answer immediately.
He finally handed the captain his phone.
Rivera read the message.
Then slowly looked at Amara.
“Dr. Johnson?”
Amara nodded.
“Yes.”
The captain's face changed.
“I—I apologize.”
Amara reached into her briefcase.
