The room of hardened outlaws grinned. The club went to work. Brick didn't just want the San Bernardino chapter. He wanted a display of force so biblical that Trent Gallagher's soul would leave his body. Phone calls were made across state lines. Members from the nomads charter, riders from Oakland, and brothers from neighboring desert chapters were mobilized. This wasn't about violence. It was about a perfectly executed operation of intimidation.

Thursday passed in agonizing suspense for Toby, who stayed home sick, terrified of what his uncle was planning. Meanwhile, at Crest View High, Trent Gallagher strutted through the halls like a conquering king. He bragged to his football buddies about how he had put the kid in his place, completely oblivious to the massive gears turning in the criminal underworld just miles away.

Friday afternoon arrived. The Southern California sun beat down on the sprawling campus of Crest View High. It was 2:45 p.m., exactly 15 minutes before the final bell. Trent Gallagher was sitting in his AP history class on the ground floor, leaning his chair back, tossing a pencil at the ceiling, and ignoring the teacher, Mr. Harrison. Trent was already thinking about the weekend's parties and his upcoming football game. He felt utterly invincible.

Then it started. It began as a low vibrating hum, a frequency that seemed to rise from the earth itself. Mr. Harrison paused mid-sentence, looking up at the fluorescent lights which had begun to rattle in their fixtures. The water in a glass on the teacher's desk rippled, trembling as if a minor earthquake was rolling through the valley.

But it wasn't an earthquake. The low hum swelled into a deafening, thunderous mechanical roar. It was the unmistakable aggressive growl of V-twin engines. Not one, not two, but dozens of them synchronized in a terrifying symphony of heavy metal and exhaust.
