A teenager near the mat whispered:

“She beat his grip twice.”

Logan heard.

His eyes moved toward the boy.

The boy immediately looked away.

Logan returned his attention to Naomi.

“You came here hiding something.”

Naomi shook her head.

“No.”

“Then prove it.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“That's enough.”

Logan looked at him.

“You don't get to decide.”

Daniel smiled.

“You're right.”

Logan's eyebrows lifted.

Daniel continued:

“She does.”

Everyone looked at Naomi.

Logan said:

“Fine.”

He pointed toward the center of the mat.

“One round.”

Marcus immediately intervened.

“No.”

Logan looked at him.

“Why not?”

“Because you already crossed a line.”

“I apologized.”

Marcus shook his head.

“That's not the issue.”

Logan looked back at Naomi.

“You don't have to.”

Naomi remained silent.

Logan smiled.

“See?”

Then he turned toward the crowd.

“She's afraid.”

Naomi's expression did not change.

Daniel watched her.

He knew that look.

She wasn't afraid.

She was deciding.

Finally Naomi stood.

“I'll do it.”

Daniel closed his eyes briefly.

“Naomi.”

She looked at him.

“I know.”

“You don't owe him anything.”

“I know.”

“Then why?”

Naomi looked across the room.

“Because if I leave now, he'll tell everyone I couldn't handle it.”

Daniel sighed.

“People will believe whatever they want.”

“Exactly.”

She stepped onto the mat.

Logan smiled.

“Good.”

Marcus looked unhappy.

“Three minutes. Technical only. No submissions.”

Logan nodded.

Naomi tied her hair tighter.

The crowd gathered around them.

Daniel stood at the edge.

He watched Naomi settle into position.

For a moment, he saw the girl she had been twenty-five years earlier.

Then the woman she had become.

Logan raised his hands.

Naomi did the same.

The timer started.

Logan moved first.

He expected hesitation.

There was none.

Naomi stepped inside his reach.

She caught his wrist.

Turned.

Shifted her weight.

And suddenly Logan was stumbling sideways.

He recovered before he fell.

The crowd gasped.

Logan stared.

Naomi reset.

“Again?” she asked.

Something dark appeared in his eyes.

The timer continued.

And the real fight began.

The Woman Nobody Knew

Logan came forward harder.

His pride had been wounded.

He no longer cared about demonstrating technique.

He wanted to prove Naomi had gotten lucky.

He shot for her legs.

Naomi sprawled.

Logan attempted to turn the corner.

She pivoted.

He reached for her waist.

She slipped free.

The crowd became louder.

Marcus watched carefully.

Daniel stood completely still.

A teenage student whispered:

“Who is she?”

Another answered:

“I don't know.”

Logan attacked again.

Naomi blocked.

He tried an arm drag.

She countered.

He attempted to control her back.

She rolled through.

For thirty seconds, Logan could not establish dominance.

That alone was embarrassing.

Then Naomi made a mistake.

Or at least that was what Logan thought.

Her right foot landed slightly too far forward.

Logan caught it.

He drove forward.

Naomi went down.

The crowd cheered.

Logan secured top position.

“There,” he whispered.

Naomi looked at him.

“Don't.”

He smiled.

“Don't what?”

“Get careless.”

Logan laughed.

He shifted his weight.

Naomi waited.

One second.

Two.

Then she moved.

Her hips turned.

Her knee came between them.

Her hand controlled his wrist.

Logan's balance disappeared.

He rolled.

Naomi followed.

Suddenly Logan found himself underneath her.

The room erupted.

Logan scrambled.

Naomi didn't attack aggressively.

She simply maintained position.

Marcus shouted:

“Control!”

Logan pushed.

Naomi shifted.

He tried to bridge.

She moved with him.

Then he created space and stood.

His face was red.

The timer had one minute remaining.

He charged.

Naomi sidestepped.

He hit the mat.

The audience went silent.

Logan stood again.

“Lucky.”

Naomi said nothing.

“You got lucky.”

Still nothing.

“You hear me?”

Naomi looked at him.

“Yes.”

“Then say something.”

She took a breath.

“You're tired.”

Logan's face changed.

The final thirty seconds began.

He attacked with everything he had.

Naomi defended.

Then the timer sounded.

The room went quiet.

Marcus stepped forward.

“Time.”

Logan stood breathing heavily.

Naomi barely seemed winded.

That fact hurt him more than anything else.

Logan walked toward her.

“You've done this before.”

Naomi nodded.

“Yes.”

“Where?”

“Here and there.”

“Stop lying.”

Naomi's eyes hardened.

“I didn't lie.”

“You said you trained a long time ago.”

“I did.”

“What level?”

She looked at Marcus.

Then Daniel.

Then back at Logan.

“Black belt.”

A murmur moved through the crowd.

Logan laughed.

“No.”

Naomi didn't react.

“You don't have a belt.”

“No.”

“You're claiming you're a black belt?”

“I said I earned one.”

“When?”

“A long time ago.”

Logan shook his head.

“That doesn't count.”

Naomi raised an eyebrow.

“Why?”

“Because you're not active.”

“That isn't how belts work.”

“You disappeared.”

“I left competition.”

“Why?”

Naomi looked away.

That question was different.

Daniel knew it.

So did Marcus.

Naomi's past had never been simple.

Twenty years earlier, she had been one of the most promising female grapplers in her region.

She had started training at eighteen.

By twenty-two, she was competing.

By twenty-six, she had won multiple regional tournaments.

She was known for something unusual.

She didn't fight with anger.

She fought with patience.

Her coaches called her “The Clock.”

Because once Naomi gained control, time worked against her opponent.

She had eventually earned her black belt.

Then came the night that changed everything.

A tournament.
