"Marcus..."

She pointed toward Khloe.

"She attacked me."

Marcus didn't move.

Isabella's voice trembled.

"I tried to defend myself."

Elaine stared at her.

Something about the scene didn't make sense.

But before anyone could speak, another figure appeared in the doorway.

An older man wearing a dark suit.

His expression was calm.

Far too calm.

Khloe looked up.

"Uncle Daniel..."

The man stepped into the room.

His name was Daniel Thorne.

He was Khloe's maternal uncle and one of the most influential legal investigators in the city.

He had spent thirty years exposing financial crimes, corporate corruption, and fabricated evidence.

He looked at Isabella.

Then at the cameras mounted in the upper corners of the hospital corridor.

Finally, he looked at Marcus.

"Don't let anyone touch anything."

Isabella's crying stopped.

Daniel walked toward the broken glass.

"Why?"

Isabella asked.

Daniel looked directly at her.

"Because this room is covered by security cameras."

The color drained from Isabella's face.

She glanced toward the ceiling.

Daniel continued.

"And unlike people..."

He paused.

"Cameras don't forget."

For the first time that night, Isabella looked afraid.

She had believed she was destroying Khloe's marriage.

She had believed Marcus would see only what she wanted him to see.

She had believed tears could erase violence.

She had believed she controlled the story.

She had made one mistake.

She had attacked Khloe in the one room where every second had been recorded.

And she had no idea that the footage would soon become the evidence that destroyed her own life.

The ambulance arrived less than eight minutes later.

Marcus rode beside Khloe.

He held her hand the entire time.

He didn't say much.

He didn't need to.

Every time Khloe closed her eyes, he tightened his grip.

"Stay with me."

"I'm here."

"You're safe."

But Khloe could barely hear him.

Her mind was fixed on one question.

"Is the baby okay?"

The doctor examined her immediately.

The next hour became a blur of monitors, medical staff, questions, and fear.

Finally, the obstetrician stepped into the hallway.

Marcus stood.

"Doctor?"

The doctor removed her gloves.

"The baby is stable."

Marcus closed his eyes.

For the first time since the attack, he allowed himself to breathe.

"And Khloe?"

"She has significant bruising and a strained back. Fortunately, there doesn't appear to be major internal damage."

Marcus nodded.

"Fortunately?"

"She was lucky."

The word struck him harder than anything else.

Lucky.

His wife had been attacked while carrying their child.

And he had almost arrived too late.

Across the hospital, Isabella was sitting in a private consultation room.

She had stopped crying.

Now she was on the phone.

"I need you to find out what the cameras captured."

A man's voice answered.

"Which cameras?"

"All of them."

"You said there wouldn't be witnesses."

"There weren't supposed to be."

"Then what happened?"

"Marcus came in."

Silence.

Isabella looked toward the closed door.

"There's a man named Daniel Thorne."

The voice became quieter.

"Daniel Thorne?"

"Yes."

"You need to leave."

"What?"

"Immediately."

"I'm not running."

"You don't understand who he is."

Isabella's jaw tightened.

"I know exactly who he is."

"No. You don't."

Daniel Thorne had spent years building a reputation for being patient.

That reputation was misleading.

He was patient because he understood evidence.

He knew that lies became weaker when confronted with time.

He knew that guilty people made mistakes when they tried to control a narrative.

And he knew that people who thought they were clever often created evidence against themselves.

At 2:17 a.m., Daniel entered the hospital's security office.

The head of security met him there.

"I preserved everything."

"Good."

"Do you want the footage?"

"Every angle."

The security officer brought up the recordings.

Daniel watched.

He didn't speak.

On the screen, Khloe entered the suite.

Then Isabella appeared.

They talked.

The audio was clear.

Isabella moved closer.

Then came the first shove.

Daniel's face hardened.

The second attack was worse.

The kick.

Khloe falling.

Her hands protecting her stomach.

Daniel paused the footage.

"Make three copies."

"Already done."

"Store one offline."

"Yes."

"Send one to the hospital's legal department."

"Yes."

"And the third?"

Daniel looked at the screen.

"The third goes to me."

Meanwhile, Marcus sat beside Khloe's hospital bed.

She was awake.

Her eyes were tired.

"Marcus."

"I'm here."

"Did she leave?"

"No."

Khloe looked at him.

"Isabella?"

"Security is keeping her here."

Khloe swallowed.

"She said I attacked her."

"I know."

"Do you believe her?"

Marcus stared at her.

"No."

The answer came immediately.

Khloe's eyes filled with tears.

"I was afraid you might."

Marcus leaned closer.

"I saw you on the floor."

He paused.

"I saw her standing over you."

Khloe looked away.

"There was something else."

"What?"

"She knew things."

"What things?"

"About us."

Marcus frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"Things nobody outside the family should know."

Marcus became still.

Khloe explained that Isabella had mentioned private details about their marriage.
