Owen ignored them.

He placed his hand on the engine.

Then he listened.

Four Minutes

Owen didn't start by replacing anything.

That surprised everyone.

Instead, he asked Garrett a question.

"When did it first stop running?"

"Yesterday."

"Did it lose power suddenly?"

"Yeah."

"Any strange sounds?"

Garrett thought for a moment.

"One."

"What kind?"

"A sharp click."

"Where?"

Garrett pointed toward the right side of the engine.

Owen nodded.

He opened the toolbox.

He pulled out a wrench.

Then another.

He removed a small cover.

The crowd became quiet.

One of the mechanics stepped closer.

"What are you looking for?"

Owen didn't answer.

He was staring at a bundle of wires.

He touched one.

Nothing.

Then another.

Nothing.

Then he found a connector partially hidden behind the frame.

He stopped.

"There."

Garrett frowned.

"There what?"

"This."

Owen gently moved the connector.

The engine made a faint clicking sound.

Everyone heard it.

Owen looked up.

"How long has this bike been vibrating like this?"

Garrett stared at him.

"Since I rebuilt the engine."

Owen smiled slightly.

"Then I think we found it."

He pulled the connector loose.

A tiny section of damaged wiring was exposed.

It had been rubbing against the frame.

Every time the motorcycle vibrated, the wire moved.

Eventually, the insulation had worn through.

The bike wasn't suffering from a dead computer.

It wasn't suffering from a bad battery.

It wasn't suffering from a bad fuel pump.

It had a broken connection.

A tiny problem hidden inside a very expensive machine.

Garrett looked at the wire.

Then at Owen.

"That's it?"

Owen nodded.

"That's it."

Someone looked at the clock.

"Four minutes."

The laughter disappeared.

Give Me One More Minute

Owen repaired the wire carefully.

He cleaned the connection.

Secured it.

Wrapped it.

Then he checked the surrounding wiring.

Garrett watched silently.

"You sure?"

"No."

Garrett raised an eyebrow.

Owen looked at him.

"I never say I'm sure until I test it."

That answer earned the first smile from Garrett.
