Too many fights.

One evening, after losing a street fight badly, he wandered into Master Han's gym.

He expected to learn how to hit harder.

Instead, Master Han taught him how to stand.

For months, Walter learned nothing but balance.

Then breathing.

Then movement.

Then control.

Years passed.

Walter became one of Han's best students.

At twenty-seven, he competed internationally.

At thirty, he earned a black belt.

At thirty-four, he was invited to train with national champions.

At thirty-eight, he was offered a professional fighting career.

He refused.

His mother was sick.

His younger sister needed help.

Walter chose family.

He married his childhood friend, Eleanor.

They had two children.

He worked construction during the day and trained at night.

Life became ordinary.

Then Eleanor died.

Cancer.

After her death, Walter stopped fighting.

He stopped competing.

Eventually, he stopped teaching.

But he never stopped training.

For decades, he practiced alone.

Quietly.

Without trophies.

Without cameras.

Without anyone knowing.

That was the man standing in front of Adrian Cross.

But Adrian knew none of it.

All he saw was an old janitor.

"Do you even know what you're doing?" Adrian asked.

Walter shrugged.

"Some."

More laughter.

Adrian looked at the audience.

"This should be easy."

Walter nodded.

"It probably should."

Adrian's smile widened.

"Then let's begin."

The instructor bowed.

Walter bowed.

The crowd expected Walter to stumble.

He didn't.

Adrian stepped forward.

Fast.

Very fast.

His right hand moved toward Walter's shoulder.

Walter shifted half a step.

The strike missed.

Adrian turned.

Walter was already beside him.

The audience became quiet.

Adrian attacked again.

Walter moved.

Again.

Nothing dramatic.

No flashy techniques.

No aggression.

Just movement.

Adrian frowned.

"Stop running."

Walter smiled.

"I'm not running."

He tapped Adrian lightly on the chest.

"I'm waiting."

The crowd gasped.

Adrian's face turned red.

He attacked.

This time, he moved with real force.

Walter caught his wrist.

Adrian tried to pull away.

He couldn't.

Walter twisted slightly.

Adrian dropped to one knee.

The gym went silent.

Walter released him immediately.

"Your wrist is exposed."

Adrian stood.

He stared at Walter.

"You got lucky."

Walter nodded.

"Maybe."

Adrian charged again.

Walter stepped aside.

Adrian stumbled.

The old man caught him before he fell.

That was worse than being thrown.

Walter had prevented Adrian from humiliating himself.

Adrian shoved his hand away.

"I don't need your help."

Walter looked at him.

"That's what I thought."

The demonstration should have ended there.

Instead, Adrian became furious.

He had spent years building an image.

He was the academy's champion.

The students looked up to him.

Parents admired him.

Sponsors wanted him.

And now an old janitor had made him look foolish.

"Again," Adrian said.

Walter shook his head.

"No."

"What?"

"You've already learned what you needed."

"I haven't learned anything."

Walter looked around the room.

"Then you're not ready for another lesson."

The students murmured.

Adrian stepped closer.

"You think you're better than me?"
