Stepping through the threshold was Victor Moretti.

He looked every inch the undisputed Capo of the coast—formidable, dangerous, and devastatingly handsome in a tailored midnight-black tuxedo. But it was not Victor who caused the collective, audible gasp to ripple through the room.

It was the breathtaking woman standing gracefully at his side.

Corin walked beside him, her head held high, radiating absolute elegance, wealth, and undeniable power. She wore a striking crimson silk gown that contoured perfectly to her frame, featuring a low back and a delicate diamond choker that glittered like starlight against her pale neck. Her dark curls fell in soft, glamorous waves, and her gray eyes sparkled with a sharp, terrifying intelligence.

She looked nothing like the exhausted, broken woman Richard had abandoned in the rain. She looked like an absolute monarch inspecting her territory.

Richard froze in mid-sentence, his scotch glass stopping halfway to his open mouth. His face drained of color, turning a sickening shade of gray, the cigar slipping from his fingers to crush against the polished marble floor.

"Corin?" he choked out, his voice cracking violently.

Vanessa Blake frowned, looking back and forth between her fiance and the gorgeous woman on Victor Moretti's arm. "Richard? Who is that?"

Victor guided Corin smoothly through the crowd, the sea of billionaires and politicians parting instantly before them. They came to a halt directly in front of Richard, Vanessa, and Arthur Blake.

"Good evening, Richard," Corin said, her voice silky, calm, and carrying effortlessly across the silent ballroom. "You look remarkably pale. Are you surprised to see me? Did you think I was still out on First Avenue?"

"What... what are you doing here?" Richard stammered, heavy beads of cold sweat breaking out along his hairline. "And why are you standing with him?"

Victor stepped forward slightly, his tall, broad frame completely eclipsing Richard, his arm sliding possessively around Corin's waist.

"She is standing with me, Harris," Victor said, his baritone voice echoing with absolute authority. "Because unlike a pathetic amateur like yourself, I recognize the true value of exceptional brilliance. Mrs. Harris has officially accepted the position of Chief Financial Officer for the Moretti Group."

The surrounding guests erupted into quiet, shocked whispering. The Moretti Group was a multi-billion-dollar empire; appointing Corin as CFO was an enormous declaration of power.

Richard attempted to force a laugh, his jaw clenching as he turned desperately to Arthur Blake. "Arthur, do not listen to this nonsense! This is a cheap, desperate publicity stunt organized by my bitter ex-wife! She is a criminal! She embezzled six million dollars from my firm's reserve escrow before she ran away!"

"Did I, Richard?" Corin asked softly, opening her evening clutch and extracting a sleek, silver flash drive.

She turned calmly to Arthur Blake, extending the drive toward the older patriarch.

"Mr. Blake," Corin said with crisp professional clarity. "Before you sign the final merger contracts tonight, I strongly advise your head of security to insert this drive into your terminal. It contains the complete, verified forensic audit tracing twenty million dollars stolen directly from Blake Logistics over the last eighteen months. Every single transaction was personally authorized by Richard Harris and routed into his private accounts in the Cayman Islands."

Arthur Blake’s face turned the dark, dangerous color of a thunderstorm. He snatched the flash drive from Corin’s fingers and barked an immediate order to his personal chief of security standing nearby.

"What is the meaning of this, Harris?" Arthur roared, his voice echoing off the high marble ceiling.

"It's a lie! A complete fabrication!" Richard panicked, grabbing Arthur's sleeve frantically. "She forged the data! She's trying to destroy my reputation because I divorced her! She's nothing but a bitter, vengeful ex-wife!"

"I do not forge data, Richard," Corin said, her eyes ice-cold. "I am a certified forensic auditor. Numbers do not possess human emotions, Richard. They do not lie. They simply tell the absolute truth."

Before Richard could utter another word, the heavy double doors at the front of the hotel grand hall were slammed open once more.

Five men in dark tailored suits stepped into the room, holding up gold badges pinned to their leather belts. Leading the team was Special Agent Miller of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Financial Crimes Division.

"Richard Harris!" Agent Miller announced, his voice carrying total legal authority across the silent hall.

Richard took two frantic steps backward, his eyes darting wildly toward the side service exits, but Victor’s personal security detail subtly shifted their positions, forming an impenetrable wall of muscle that blocked every avenue of escape.
