"Fear."

"Yes."

"And you left?"

"I left."

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I wanted you to have a father."

Tessa frowned.

"You were always my father."

Damon's eyes became wet.

"That's all I ever wanted to be."

She walked toward him.

For a moment, she didn't know whether to hug him.

Then she did.

Damon held her.

"I don't want you to become like me," he whispered.

Tessa shook her head.

"I don't think I could."

Damon smiled.

"Good."

Travis Kessler's Revenge

Travis didn't sleep.

He replayed the festival fight again and again.

Every mistake.

Every movement.

Every second.

He couldn't understand how Damon had controlled him.

His coach refused to help.

His father told him to forget it.

Neither worked.

Travis became obsessed.

He began researching Damon.

There wasn't much.

Roark Cycle & Repair.

Widower.

One daughter.

No criminal record.

No fighting record.

No competition history.

Nothing.

That made Travis more angry.

A nobody had beaten him.

Then one night, Travis found an old article.

It was buried in a newspaper archive.

The headline read:

BLACK RIDGE MOTORCYCLE CLUB DISBANDS AFTER LEADERSHIP CHANGE.

Travis read it.

One photograph caught his attention.

The man in the center was younger.

But the face was unmistakable.

Damon.

Travis leaned closer.

The article described Black Ridge as one of the most disciplined motorcycle organizations in the region.

The former president was described only as "D.R."

There was no full name.

But Travis knew.

Damon Roark.

Travis smiled.

Now he understood.

The mechanic wasn't a nobody.

He was hiding.

And Travis suddenly had leverage.

He sent the article to several friends.

Within hours, rumors spread across Cedar Ridge.

The mechanic had been a gang leader.

The mechanic had been dangerous.

The mechanic had a violent past.

Some details were true.

Others weren't.

But Travis didn't care.

He wanted Damon exposed.

He wanted Tessa embarrassed.

He wanted the town to see the man Travis believed had humiliated him.

But Damon had survived worse than rumors.

What Travis didn't understand was that the more he dug into Damon Roark's past, the more he was uncovering a man who had spent years earning respect rather than demanding it.

The Town Takes Sides

Cedar Ridge changed quickly.

People whispered at the diner.

At the grocery store.

Outside the school.

Some avoided Damon.

Others defended him.

The truth was more complicated than either side wanted to admit.

Damon had been part of Black Ridge.

He had led it.

He had committed violence.

But he had also transformed the organization and eventually left.

That distinction mattered to some.

Not to Travis.

He stood outside the high school one afternoon.

Tessa walked past.

"Your father was a criminal."

She stopped.

"Don't."

Travis smiled.

"Did he tell you what he used to do?"

"Yes."

That surprised him.

Tessa continued walking.

Travis followed.

"You should be ashamed."

She turned.

"No."

"What?"

"I'm not ashamed of my father."

"He lied to you."

"He protected me."

"He was dangerous."

Tessa looked at him.

"So are you."

Travis's smile disappeared.

"You think you're better than me?"

"No."

"Then what?"

Tessa took a breath.

"I think you're still trying to beat a man who already stopped fighting you."

She walked away.

For the first time, Travis had no answer.

That night, he went to his father's office.

Richard Kessler listened as Travis explained everything.

"You need to stop."

Travis stared.

"Why?"

"Because you're becoming obsessed."

"He humiliated me."

Richard leaned back.

"That's life."

"I want him destroyed."

Richard's expression changed.

"Careful."

"Why?"

Richard hesitated.

"Because some people are dangerous for reasons you don't understand."

Travis stared at him.

"You know something."

Richard didn't answer.

"Tell me."

Finally, Richard sighed.

"I knew Damon Roark before he opened that garage."

Travis froze.

"What?"

"Years ago."

"How?"

Richard looked away.

"I once made the mistake of underestimating him."

Travis leaned forward.

"What happened?"

Richard didn't respond.

And that silence told Travis everything.

The Men From Black Ridge

Three days later, a convoy arrived in Cedar Ridge.

Six motorcycles.

Black.

Heavy.

Silent.

They stopped outside Roark Cycle & Repair.

Damon stepped outside.

Rafe removed his helmet.

"You should have called us."

"I don't need help."

"We know."

Rafe looked at him.

"But we're here anyway."

Damon shook his head.

"This is my problem."

"No."

Rafe glanced toward the town.

"It's a problem connected to the name."

Damon understood.

Black Ridge still had influence.

If they intervened, things could become worse.

"Nobody touches Travis."

Rafe nodded.

"Agreed."

"Nobody threatens his family."

"Agreed."

"And nobody starts anything."

Rafe smiled.

"You haven't changed."

Damon looked at him.

"That's not a compliment."
