Dozens of them.
The chase began.
They crossed the desert at high speed.
Bikers surrounded John's motorcycle, creating a moving shield.
Cars followed.
SUVs.
Motorcycles.
A helicopter appeared overhead.
Bullets struck the road.
John leaned the motorcycle sideways.
Daniel screamed.
John shouted over the engine.
"Hold on!"
They flew beneath an overpass.
The helicopter couldn't follow.
Two pursuing motorcycles crashed into a concrete barrier.
Marcus led the others down a different highway.
They split the convoy.
It worked.
For several minutes.
Then a black SUV appeared beside John.
A man leaned out with a rifle.
John accelerated.
The SUV matched him.
The shooter aimed.
Daniel saw the weapon.
"Dad!"
John turned.
He saw the gun.
He slammed the brakes.
The motorcycle spun.
The bullet missed.
John fired backward.
The SUV swerved.
It crashed through a guardrail and disappeared down an embankment.
Daniel was shaking.
John stopped.
He looked at his son.
"Are you okay?"
Daniel nodded.
Then he asked:
"Did you kill him?"
John looked toward the wreck.
"I don't know."
Daniel stared at him.
"Is that what you do?"
John didn't answer immediately.
"Sometimes."
"How many people?"
John looked away.
"Too many."
Daniel's voice softened.
"Are you a bad man?"
John closed his eyes.
"I've done bad things."
"That isn't what I asked."
John looked back.
"No."
Daniel waited.
"I'm not a good man either."
The boy thought about it.
Then he held tighter.
"You're still my dad."
John's eyes became wet.
He turned the motorcycle forward.
"Yes."
For the first time in nine years, John Wick said the word without fear.
"My son."
The Price of Truth
They reached Chicago two days later.
The city was cold.
Rain fell across the streets.
They stayed in an old motorcycle clubhouse owned by Marcus's brother.
Nobody asked questions.
Nobody needed explanations.
Everyone understood that John Wick was dangerous.
But they also understood something else.
He was protecting a child.
And that mattered.
Rebecca Stone arrived just after midnight.
She was sixty-three years old.
Gray hair.
Sharp eyes.
Former military intelligence.
She studied the microfilm for nearly an hour.
Then she looked at John.
"You have any idea what this is?"
"Not completely."
Rebecca sighed.
"This isn't just a key."
She projected the film onto a screen.
The symbols became visible.
"It's a verification sequence."
Marcus leaned forward.
"Meaning?"
"The original ledger has been encrypted."
Rebecca pointed to a series of numbers.
"These numbers tell you where to find it."
"Where?"
She hesitated.
"Under a federal building."
Everyone stared at her.
John said nothing.
Rebecca continued.
"Not physically under it. Beneath an old archive facility."
"Which one?"
Rebecca zoomed in.
"Denver."
Marcus swore.
Daniel stood nearby.
He had been quiet for most of the night.
Then he asked:
"Why would my mother have this?"
Rebecca looked at him.
"Because she discovered something."
"What?"
Rebecca glanced at John.
John nodded.
"Tell him."
Rebecca sighed.
"Your mother found evidence that Victor Sloane was planning something much larger than organized crime."
Daniel frowned.
"What?"
"Control."
Rebecca explained that Sloane had spent years buying companies, politicians, judges, media outlets, and private security firms.
He had created a hidden network capable of manipulating elections, markets, prosecutions, and even international conflicts.
But he needed one thing.
Permanent immunity.
The ledger contained proof that could destroy everyone involved.
Daniel looked at John.
"So they want to kill me."
"They want the film," Rebecca said.
John corrected her.
"No."
Everyone looked at him.
"They want the boy alive."
Daniel froze.
John continued.
"The microfilm isn't enough without Daniel."
Rebecca stared.
"What?"
John pointed to the pendant.
"Elena didn't just hide the film."
He looked at Daniel.
"She used Daniel's birth information as part of the encryption."
Daniel's face went pale.
"Me?"
"Your birth date. Your hospital number. Your mother's medical file."
Rebecca understood.
"Daniel is the password."
Marcus cursed.
"Then Sloane needs him."
John nodded.
"Alive."
Daniel stepped backward.
"That's why they didn't kill me."
John looked at him.
"I'm sorry."
Daniel shook his head.
"You knew?"
"I suspected."
"You knew they would chase me."
"I knew they might."
"You lied."
John had no defense.
Daniel turned away.
"I hate you."
The words were quiet.
But they hurt.
John stood completely still.
Rebecca looked at him sympathetically.
Outside, thunder rolled.
Then the building lights went out.
Marcus reached for his weapon.
John whispered:
"They're here."
The first window shattered.
Gunfire erupted.
The clubhouse became chaos.
John pushed Daniel behind a concrete wall.
"Stay down."
Men stormed the building.
Marcus and his bikers returned fire.
Rebecca grabbed the microfilm.
A sniper shot through the ceiling.
John moved.
He pulled Daniel toward a rear corridor.
But Daniel stopped.
"What?"
John looked back.
A man had entered the room.
He wasn't wearing a mask.
He was young.
Maybe thirty.
He held no weapon.
He simply stared at John.
Then he smiled.
"Hello, Mr. Wick."
