"Oh my God," Denise breathed. "Steven is standing there insulting the owner of the company.""Not just insulting him," Luis said, his eyes wild with panic. "He's trying to throw him off his own airplane!"Denise didn't hesitate any longer. She knew Captain Steven Parker’s temper; she knew his deep-seated arrogance, which had earned him several formal union grievances over the past decade. But this wasn't a minor dispute over flight scheduling or galley supplies. This was corporate suicide, playing out in front of dozens of recording smartphones.Denise stepped around the service door and reached out, placing her hand firmly on Steven’s right sleeve."Captain Parker," Denise said, her voice dropping into an urgent, command-level pitch. "Step into the jet bridge with me right now."Steven didn't even turn his head. He pulled his arm away from her touch. "Not now, Denise. I am handling this passenger.""Steven, listen to me!" Denise insisted, using his first name—a sharp breach of standard protocol that immediately drew the attention of the remaining crew. "You need to look at the manifest tablet right now."" floor it, Denise!" Steven snapped loudly, his voice echoing into the boarding tunnel. "I am the pilot-in-command! I don't care what the manifest says! If I say he doesn't fly, he doesn't fly!"

Chapter 7: The Turning Tide

The entire cabin went dead silent once again.Malcolm Reed slowly reached down to his armrest. He picked up his dark leather folder, holding it lightly in his lap. His thumb rested just above the silver emblem and the three embossed letters: CEO."Captain Parker," Malcolm said, his voice entirely devoid of anger, carrying only a quiet, absolute finality. "I am going to give you one final opportunity to return to the cockpit, close the aircraft door, and fulfill your duty to these passengers."Steven let out a short, bitter laugh. "Are you threatening me? On my own plane?""I am stating a choice," Malcolm corrected gently. "You can fly this airplane to Chicago, or you can step down right now and let your first officer handle the departure."Steven took a full step toward seat 1A, towering over Malcolm, his fists clenched tight at his sides. "You don't give me choices. You don't have the authority to tell me who flies this plane. I don't care who you think you are, or how much money you paid for that ticket. On this aircraft, my word is law.""Steven, stop!" Denise cried out, unable to hold back any longer. She stepped directly between the pilot and the passenger, turning her back to Malcolm and placing both hands flat on Steven’s chest to push him back. "Stop talking! Look at the tablet!"Luis thrust the electronic tablet directly in front of Steven’s face, holding the bright blue screen inches from the pilot’s eyes."Read it, Captain!" Luis yelled, his usual meek demeanor completely gone. "Read the line at the bottom!"Steven blinked, startled by the sudden rebellion from his flight attendants. He pulled his head back slightly, his brow furrowing as his eyes adjusted to the bright light of the screen. His eyes scanned the text on the manifest interface:PASSENGER: REED, MALCOLMTITLE: CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICERPARENT COMPANY: REED CAPITAL HOLDINGS / NORTHSTAR AIRWAYS GROUPSteven’s pupils dilated. The color instantly drained from his face, leaving his skin a pale, sickly gray. The harsh, arrogant line of his mouth slacked open."What..." Steven stammered, his voice suddenly losing all of its booming authority. "What is this?""That is Mr. Malcolm Reed," Denise said, her voice shaking with a combination of rage and relief. "The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Northstar Airways. The man who owns this company."Steven slowly turned his head to look back down at seat 1A.Malcolm sat there, calm and immaculate, his dark eyes looking up into Steven’s with unwavering clarity. He slowly lifted his dark leather folder, placing it flat on his tray table so that the silver emblem and the small silver letters—CEO—were fully visible under the bright cabin lights."Now, Captain Parker," Malcolm said softly. "Would you like to continue our discussion regarding who belongs in seat 1A?"

Chapter 8: The Confrontation Deepens

The air inside the first-class cabin seemed to drop several degrees.Steven stood frozen in the center aisle, his broad shoulders slumping under the crushing weight of realization. The four silver stripes on his sleeves, which had felt like an impenetrable armor only moments before, now felt like a target painted on his uniform.Behind him, several passengers who had been watching the interaction unfold began to put two and two together."Wait, did she just say he's the CEO?" a man in row three whispered loudly."Oh, unbelievable," the woman in seat 1B murmured, holding her phone higher to capture Steven’s frozen expression. "The pilot just tried to throw the head of the airline off the plane."Steven swallowed hard, his throat dry. He looked down at Malcolm, his mind desperately trying to construct a bridge back across the canyon he had spent the last ten minutes digging."Mr... Mr. Reed," Steven began, his voice raspy and devoid of its previous confidence. "I... I was not informed that executive personnel were on board tonight.""Clearly," Malcolm replied, his tone remaining dry and unyielding. "Because if you had known, you would have treated me with the basic courtesy and professional respect that every paying passenger on this aircraft deserves."
