Then came the Tuesday night that changed everything.

The gym was packed. Derek was preparing his star pupil, a twenty-something hotshot named Chad, for an upcoming title fight. The atmosphere was incredibly tense. Chad was struggling, failing to execute a complex counter-strike that Derek was trying to force upon him. Derek was losing his patience, his voice booming across the gym, echoing off the high ceilings.

"No, you idiot!" Derek screamed, slapping Chad’s gloves down. "You're too slow! Your hips are stiff! You're moving like you're stuck in mud!"

The entire gym had stopped to watch. Dozens of students stood around the edge of the mats in absolute silence. No one dared to interrupt Derek Stone when he was in a rage.

Marcus was fifty feet away, quietly emptying a trash can near the water fountain. He was trying to remain as unobtrusive as possible, keeping his head down. But as he pulled the heavy black plastic bag from the bin, the thin material caught on a sharp edge of the metal rim. With a loud, tearing sound, the bag ripped open.

Half-empty plastic water bottles, protein bar wrappers, and wet paper towels spilled onto the pristine floor with a clatter.

In a bustling gym, the noise would have been negligible. But in the dead silence created by Derek’s temper tantrum, it sounded like a gunshot.

Derek whipped his head around, his face flushed red with anger and exertion. His eyes locked onto Marcus, who was already dropping to his knees, frantically trying to scoop the garbage back up with his bare hands.

"Hey!" Derek bellowed, his voice laced with venom.

Marcus froze, his heart pounding in his chest. "I'm sorry, Mr. Stone," Marcus mumbled, not making eye contact. "I'll have it cleaned up in a second."

Derek wasn't going to let it go. He had an audience, and he was frustrated. He needed a target to vent his rage, and the janitor was the perfect, defenseless victim. Derek stepped off the training mats and marched across the concrete floor, his bare feet slapping loudly against the ground. He stopped right in front of the kneeling Marcus.

"Look at you," Derek sneered, his voice dropping to a cruel, mocking volume that somehow carried to every corner of the room. "I'm trying to train champions here, and you're dumping garbage on my floor. You're a distraction. You're pathetic."

"It was an accident," Marcus said softly, picking up a wet paper towel. "I apologize."
