Julian missed a punch.

Reed countered.

Julian stumbled.

The crowd became quiet.

Reed pressed forward.

Julian's confidence disappeared.

For the first time, he was facing someone who did not care about his surname.

The exchange became brutal.

Julian survived.

But he lost the decision.

When the announcer raised Reed's hand, Julian stood frozen.

His face burned.

He left the cage without speaking.

In the hallway, he kicked a trash can.

It fell over.

Arthur appeared with a broom.

Julian looked at him.

Then something inside him snapped.

"Don't."

Arthur stopped.

Julian pointed at the trash.

"Leave it."

Arthur looked at the overturned can.

Then at Julian.

"I'll clean it."

"I said leave it."

Arthur remained silent.

Julian stepped closer.

"You think this is funny?"

"No."

"You think you're better than me?"

Arthur's expression did not change.

"No."

"Then why do you look at me like that?"

Arthur answered quietly.

"Like what?"

"Like you know something."

Arthur lowered his eyes.

"I don't know anything about you."

Julian shoved him.

It wasn't a powerful push.

But the hallway went silent.

Arthur took one step backward.

His heel stopped exactly at the edge of the mat.

He did not fall.

He did not stumble.

He simply stood there.

Marcus Hale had seen everything.

So had several fighters.

Julian looked at Arthur.

"Stay out of my way."

Then he walked off.

Nobody spoke.

Arthur picked up the trash can.

He set it upright.

Then he swept the floor.

But Marcus was no longer watching the floor.

He was watching Arthur.

Because when Julian had shoved him, Arthur's body had moved in a way Marcus had seen before.

Not like a janitor.

Like a trained fighter.

The Challenge

The following Monday, rumors began spreading around Apex Striking.

Some said Julian had pushed Arthur.

Others said Arthur had almost pushed Julian back.

The story changed every time someone repeated it.

Julian hated all of it.

He especially hated the suggestion that the janitor had remained calm because he wasn't afraid.

So he decided to make a spectacle.

During the evening session, Apex Striking was crowded.

Julian had gathered several of his friends near the main mat.

They were young.

Confident.

Talented.

And accustomed to being admired.

Arthur was cleaning near the cage.

Julian walked toward him.

"Arthur."

Arthur looked up.

"Yes?"

"Come here."

Arthur approached.

Julian smiled.

"You've worked here a long time, right?"

"Yes."

"Ever trained?"

Arthur shook his head.

"No."

A few fighters laughed.

Julian looked around.

"See? That's what I thought."

Arthur said nothing.

Julian continued.

"You spend all day around fighters. You must know something."

"I know how to clean the mats."

More laughter.

Julian stepped closer.

"Let's find out."

Arthur frowned slightly.

"Find out what?"

"If you know how to fight."

Marcus Hale immediately stepped forward.

"Julian."

Julian ignored him.

"One round."

Arthur shook his head.

"No."

Julian laughed.

"Why?"

"Because I don't need to."

That answer made the laughter disappear.

Julian's eyes narrowed.

"What did you say?"

Arthur looked directly at him.

"I said I don't need to."

Julian's face tightened.

"You scared?"

"No."

"Then get in the cage."

"No."

Julian turned toward the others.

"Did everyone hear that?"

A few people laughed nervously.

Then Julian said the words that changed everything.

"Maybe the old man isn't a janitor."

Silence.

Arthur stared at him.

Julian smiled.

"Maybe he's hiding."

Marcus stepped forward.

"Enough."

But Arthur raised one hand.

Marcus stopped.

Arthur looked at Julian.

"You want to know?"

Julian nodded.

"Yes."

Arthur looked around the gym.

Hundreds of eyes were on him.

For years, he had deliberately made himself invisible.

He had wanted no attention.

No questions.

No recognition.

But there were moments when a person could remain silent only for so long.

Arthur removed his work gloves.

He folded them carefully.

Then placed them on the cleaning cart.

Julian smiled.

"So?"

Arthur walked toward the cage.

The gym became completely silent.

Marcus stared.

Arthur climbed through the ropes.

Julian followed.

The difference between them was obvious.
