Daniel looked at Maya.

“Horizon Mobility?”

Maya nodded.

Richard's face changed.

“You're saying you're connected to Horizon?”

Maya looked at him.

“I'm not connected to Horizon.”

She paused.

“I run it.”

Nobody spoke.

Richard stared at her.

Vanessa blinked.

Daniel lowered his phone slightly.

A man near the entrance whispered, “She's the CEO?”

Maya finally introduced herself.

“Maya Bennett. Chief Executive Officer of Horizon Mobility Group.”

The room erupted into whispers.

Richard shook his head.

“No.”

Maya remained silent.

“No,” he repeated. “That's impossible.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“I've seen her photograph.”

Richard turned toward him.

“What?”

Daniel pulled up a business article on his phone.

“I read about Horizon's new CEO last quarter.”

He looked from the screen to Maya.

“It's her.”

Vanessa's face went pale.

Richard snatched the phone from Daniel.

The photograph showed the same woman.

Same eyes.

Same expression.

Same unmistakable face.

The headline was about Horizon's expansion into international fleet management.

Richard stared at the screen.

Five billion dollars.

His dealership's future.

The deal he had been celebrating.

The deal he had just destroyed.

He looked at Maya.

“You knew?”

“Yes.”

“You knew who you were?”

Maya almost smiled.

“I've known who I am my entire life.”

Richard's voice weakened.

“Why didn't you tell me?”

Maya looked around the showroom.

“You never asked.”

The words hit harder than shouting could have.

Richard opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

Maya continued.

“I came here today to sign the final agreement.”

A collective gasp swept through the showroom.

“You were going to sign it here?”

“Yes.”

“With us?”

“Yes.”

Richard stared at the luxury cars surrounding him.

Then at the torn brochure on the floor.

Then at Maya.

“You canceled the contract?”

“I did.”

“But you can't.”

Maya's expression remained steady.

“I can.”

Richard shook his head.

“Five billion dollars?”

“Yes.”

“Over this?”

Maya looked at him.

“Not over this.”

She paused.

“Because of this.”

 The Contract

Richard's confidence began to collapse.

He grabbed his phone.

“I'll call corporate.”

“You can.”

“They'll fix this.”

“They won't.”

“You don't know that.”

Maya looked at him.

“I wrote the termination order.”

Richard froze.

Maya continued.

“The contract was conditional on professional conduct, equal treatment and compliance with Horizon's supplier standards.”

Daniel looked surprised.

“You had already included those conditions?”

“Of course.”

Maya looked around the room.

“A company doesn't invest five billion dollars without evaluating the people responsible for the relationship.”

Richard's voice became desperate.

“This is a misunderstanding.”

“No.”

“You came here intending to cancel.”

“I came here intending to sign.”

Richard stared at her.

The distinction was devastating.

Maya had not entered the dealership looking for revenge.

She had come prepared to create an opportunity.

Richard had destroyed it himself.

Vanessa suddenly stepped forward.

“Director, maybe we should apologize.”

Richard looked at her.

“What?”

“She can reinstate the deal.”

Maya shook her head.

“No.”

Vanessa's face fell.

“Please.”

Maya looked at her.

“You laughed while he humiliated me.”

“I didn't know who you were.”

“That is the problem.”

Vanessa lowered her eyes.

Maya continued.

“Respect should not depend on someone's bank account.”

The words silenced the room.

A customer near the entrance nodded.

“She is right.”

Another said, “I've been treated badly here too.”

Richard turned toward them.

“Everyone needs to calm down.”

But nobody listened.

A woman in a silver dress stepped forward.

“I bought two cars from this dealership last year.”

She looked at Richard.

“I will never come back.”

A man beside her nodded.

“Neither will I.”

Richard's face tightened.

“You're all overreacting.”

Maya shook her head.

“No, Richard.”

She took one step toward him.

“You are.”

Richard stared at her.

For the first time, he looked less like a powerful executive and more like a frightened man.
