“Please,” he said.

It was barely audible.

Maya heard it.

So did everyone else.

“Please reconsider.”

Maya's expression softened for the first time.

“I gave you every opportunity to show me who you were.”

Richard swallowed.

“You made a mistake.”

“No.”

She looked toward the glass doors.

“You did.”

The Recording

Daniel was still holding his phone.

The recording had continued from the moment Richard first insulted Maya.

He looked at the screen.

Thousands of people were beginning to watch.

The video had been shared by a customer.

Then another.

Then another.

Within minutes, the confrontation was spreading online.

Richard noticed.

“What are you doing?”

Daniel looked at him.

“Recording.”

“Delete it.”

“No.”

“That's an order.”

Daniel shook his head.

“You're no longer in a position to give me orders.”

Richard stared at him.

“You're fired.”

Daniel smiled sadly.

“You keep saying that.”

Then Maya's phone rang.

She answered.

“Horizon executive office.”

A woman's voice came through the speaker.

“Madam Bennett, the board has received the termination notice.”

Maya nodded.

“Good.”

“The manufacturer has also been notified.”

Richard stepped forward.

“Wait.”

The voice continued.

“The dealership's Horizon partnership is under immediate review.”

Richard's breathing became uneven.

“What does that mean?”

Maya looked at him.

“It means the $5 billion contract is gone.”

Richard's eyes widened.

“And the manufacturer?”

Maya answered.

“They will make their own decision.”

Richard shook his head.

“They can't remove me.”

Maya said nothing.

Richard turned toward the guards.

“Tell them I'm still the director.”

Neither guard moved.

“Tell them!”

One guard looked at his radio.

A message had just arrived.

He read it.

Then looked at Richard.

“Sir…”

Richard's voice cracked.

“What?”

The guard hesitated.

“Corporate has requested that you surrender your access badge.”

Silence.

Richard stared at him.

“You're joking.”

The guard shook his head.

“No, sir.”

Richard reached into his jacket.

His fingers trembled as he pulled out his badge.

He pressed it against the scanner.

Red.

Denied.

He tried again.

Red.

Denied.

A third time.

Red.

Denied.

The room was completely silent.

Daniel's phone captured every second.

Richard stared at the red light.

Twenty years.

His name had been displayed on the office door.

He had controlled employees.

He had controlled customers.

He had believed the building belonged to him.

But in less than an hour, the illusion was gone.

 The Fall

Richard turned toward Maya.

“This is because of you.”

Maya shook her head.

“No.”

“You destroyed me.”

“No.”

“You canceled everything.”

“I made one decision.”

Richard's voice rose.

“You knew what would happen!”

“I knew what your behavior would cost.”

He pointed toward the showroom.

“This is my life.”

Maya looked around.

“No. This was your position.”

Richard's face hardened.

“You think you're better than me?”

“No.”

“Then why are you doing this?”

Maya's answer came without hesitation.

“Because you humiliated me.”

Richard stared at her.

“And?”

“And I will not reward discrimination with five billion dollars.”

A customer applauded.

Then another.

Soon, the entire showroom was filled with applause.

Richard looked around desperately.

“Stop!”

Nobody stopped.

“Stop clapping!”

The applause became louder.

He shouted again.

“I am the director!”

A guard stepped forward.

“Not anymore.”

Richard's mouth fell open.

The guard continued.

“Your access privileges have been revoked.”

Richard looked at the badge in his hand.

His face collapsed.

“You can't.”

“We're following corporate instructions.”

“Who gave them?”

The guard looked toward Maya.

“Horizon.”

Richard laughed bitterly.

“So she owns everything now?”

Maya answered calmly.

“No.”

She walked closer.

“I don't own everything.”

She looked directly into his eyes.

“But I control the contract you needed to survive.”

Richard's shoulders dropped.

The distinction was important.

Maya hadn't taken his business.

She hadn't sabotaged him.

She hadn't threatened him.
