Chapter 1: The Illusion of Perfection
The morning of the wedding was supposed to be a flawless manifestation of the American Dream, an event perfectly curated for the social elite of Westchester County, New York. The sprawling three-acre estate, framed by towering oak trees and impeccably manicured lawns, buzzed with the frantic energy of caterers, florists, and event planners. Inside the main house, however, a different kind of tension simmered beneath the surface of the grand occasion. Thirty-year-old David Miller stood in the master suite, staring out the window at the massive white event tent being erected in his backyard. He wore a charcoal grey suit, the jacket tailored to perfection, hanging over an unbuttoned crisp white dress shirt. He hadn't bothered with the tie yet. His mind was elsewhere, heavily occupied by the one person who mattered more to him than any corporate merger or lavish celebration: his six-year-old daughter, Lily.
