The silence in the security room was deafening, broken only by the soft, rhythmic hum of the server racks cooling the massive banks of monitors. I stood paralyzed, my hands pressed flat against the cool metal of the control desk, my knuckles turning white as the blood drained from my face. The glowing screens cast a pale, ghostly light across the room, illuminating the exact moment my entire world fractured into pieces. I wasn’t just watching a live feed of my living room; I was watching the brutal, undeniable destruction of my family’s safety.

On monitor four, the high-definition camera captured the aftermath of Patricia’s outburst. Martina, my brave, quiet ten-year-old, was staring at the floor, her small shoulders rigid with a practiced tension that broke my heart. Daniela, barely seven, was clutching her sister’s arm, her wide brown eyes locked onto the woman who was supposed to become their stepmother in less than three months.
