“That is a lie!” Vivian shrieked, marching forward. “Officers, thank God you’re here. This woman is insane. She attacked me! My son had to restrain her. I want her removed from my property immediately! This is my house!”
The second officer turned to Vivian, his expression unreadable. “Your house, ma’am?”
“Yes!” Vivian lied flawlessly. “My son bought it for me. She’s just a guest who has outstayed her welcome. Arrest her!”
The lead officer looked at me. “Do you need medical attention, ma’am?”
“Yes,” I gasped. “My ribs are broken. But before the paramedics take me… Officer, in the hall closet, there is a grey fireproof safe. The code is 0-4-1-2. Inside is the original property deed, the mortgage statements, and the utility bills.”
Daniel’s head snapped up. “What?”
I looked dead into his terrified eyes. “You never came to the closing, Daniel. You just signed where the lawyer told you to. If you had read the papers, you would know that my father’s trust paid the down payment. The mortgage is solely in my name. You don’t own a single brick of this building. And neither does she.”
