NOTICE OF VIOLATION AND IMMINENT SEIZURE Property Owner: Unknown/Arthur Vance Violation: Cultivation of unapproved flora (Zea mays/Corn) in excess of 24 inches within the community view-shed. Action Required: Raze the field within 48 hours or face property seizure and daily fines of $500.

Arthur chuckled, shaking his head. He crumpled the letter and tossed it into the bed of his pickup truck. He wasn't a part of their HOA, and they had absolutely no jurisdiction over him.

When 48 hours passed and the cornfield remained, Eleanor took matters into her own hands. She marched down the hill, accompanied by two nervous-looking HOA board members. Arthur was leaning against his fence, chewing on a piece of straw.

"Mr. Vance," Eleanor barked, her hands on her hips. "You are in direct violation of our community standards. This field is a blight. If you do not tear it down, we will hire a crew to do it for you, and bill you for the labor."
