Liam stared at Susan in disbelief. "I bought this cabin three weeks ago. My name is on the deed. She demanded my house keys, and I told her no. That’s it."

The deputy turned to Susan, his expression stern. "Ma'am, is this true? Did you call the emergency line because he wouldn't give you a spare key?"

"He is in violation of the bylaws!" Susan shrieked, clutching her clipboard. "He is acting suspiciously! How do I know he isn't building a meth lab in there? The board has a right to access!"

"Ma'am, that is a civil matter, not a police matter," the deputy warned her harshly. "Do not abuse the 911 system again, or I will cite you for a false report. Have a good day."

As the deputy drove away, Susan glared daggers at Liam. "This isn't over," she hissed. "I will get into that cabin. It's my right as President."

Liam knew Susan wasn't making an empty threat. He had dealt with entitled people before, but Susan had a dangerous mix of arrogance and a total disregard for boundaries. The standard brass deadbolt on his door suddenly felt entirely inadequate.
