The entire street had come alive. Neighbors were standing on their porches, holding their coffee mugs, watching in stunned, delighted silence as the tyrant of Oakridge Estates was shoved into the back of a police cruiser. For years, they had suffered under her petty rules and aggressive fines. Now, they watched as the red and blue lights flashed against her tear-streaked face.

The young officer closed the door of his cruiser and walked back up to Marcus.

"Sir, I'll have the report filed immediately at the precinct," the officer said, clearly still trying to impress the Commissioner. "We'll impound her vehicle if you'd like it removed from your driveway."

"Call a tow truck," Marcus agreed, pulling his yellow leather work gloves back on. "And tell the Captain I said you handled yourself well today."

"Thank you, sir!" the officer beamed.

As the patrol car drove away, taking the screaming HOA President with it, the neighborhood fell back into a peaceful, golden silence. Marcus turned around, walked back to his massive red commercial pump, and pulled the nozzle out again. He inserted it into the tank of his vintage green truck, squeezed the handle, and smiled as the rhythmic hum of the engine filled his sanctuary once more. It turned out to be a beautiful Saturday after all.
