Julian stared at her. He looked at the custom infinity edge, the imported palm trees, and the perimeter fence. She genuinely believed she was standing at the neighborhood clubhouse.
For a fleeting second, Julian considered explaining the layout of the neighborhood to her. He considered politely reminding her that the community pool was exactly three blocks away. But looking at her aggressive, entitled posture—the way she looked down her nose at his family as if they were trespassers—his patience evaporated.
Instead of arguing, Julian picked up his black smartphone from his lap. He tapped the screen, switched it to video mode, and hit record. He held it up, resting his elbows on his knees, keeping the camera trained squarely on Brenda’s flushed face.
"Are you recording me?" Brenda gasped, taking a step back in feigned shock. "That is highly inappropriate! Turn that off immediately!"
"I’m documenting a trespasser on my property," Julian replied, his voice calm, deep, and devoid of any intimidation. "Please, continue. You were saying something about unauthorized guests?"
Brenda’s eyes narrowed. The presence of the camera didn't deter her; it only fueled her righteous indignation. She truly believed she possessed absolute moral and legal authority. She leaned forward, jabbing her index finger toward Julian's face, her voice rising to a near-shout.
"I warned you about unauthorized people around this pool," Brenda scolded, her head bobbing with every word. "Now you've brought the whole family into it."
Julian didn't flinch at her pointing finger. He kept the camera perfectly steady. He looked at her through the lens, a dark, ironic amusement swirling behind his serious expression.
"You just walked into my private backyard," Julian stated plainly, ensuring his voice was clearly captured on the recording.
