Tolbert looked at the paperwork Elijah held out. The evidence was irrefutable. Serial numbers matched. Timestamps conflicted. The victim's affidavit completely shattered the core corpus delicti of the alleged crime.

Officer Haskins shifted nervously, his face flushed and sweating under the courtroom lights. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

Elijah closed his notebook. He adjusted his father's oversized suit jacket one last time, turned to the bench, and made his closing request.

"Your Honor, under Georgia Code Section 17-7-23, a preliminary hearing serves to test whether probable cause exists to hold an accused person for trial. When the evidence demonstrates that no underlying crime took place, that the law enforcement timeline was falsified, and that the physical evidence was improperly introduced, there can be no probable cause. Furthermore, an individual cannot be guilty of resisting an unlawful, warrantless arrest based on fabricated evidence. We ask that all charges against Isaiah Carrington be dismissed immediately with prejudice, and that an investigation into the conduct of the arresting officer be initiated."

Elijah sat down quietly at the defense table. He folded his hands atop his closed notebooks. The room was so quiet that the hum of the air conditioning unit overhead was clearly audible.

Judge Raymond Tolbert sat back in his chair. He took off his wire-rimmed glasses and rubbed his eyes. He looked at Elijah Carrington for a long, quiet minute—no longer seeing a kid playing dress-up in his father's suit, but a legal mind of extraordinary instinct, discipline, and intelligence.

Tolbert slowly turned his head toward the prosecution. "Ms. Lindholm. Do you have any redirect? Do you have any evidence, any witness, or any argument that can salvage this case?"

Lindholm stood up slowly. She looked at Officer Haskins, then at the judge, and finally at Elijah. She took a deep breath.

"The State... moves to enter a motion of nolle prosequi, Your Honor," Lindholm declared softly. "In light of the evidence presented by defense counsel, the State cannot proceed in good faith."

Judge Tolbert struck his wooden gavel against the sound block with a sharp, echoing BANG.

"Motion granted," Judge Tolbert announced, his voice ringing clearly throughout the room. "All charges against Isaiah Carrington are dismissed with prejudice. He is to be released from custody immediately."

Tolbert paused, pointing his gavel toward Officer Haskins. "Officer Haskins, you are ordered not to leave this courthouse. Internal Affairs and the District Attorney's office will be notified immediately regarding the potential fabrication of evidence and official misconduct."

Haskins slumped back into his chair, looking utterly defeated.

"Court is adjourned," Judge Tolbert declared, striking the gavel once more.

As the judge stood up to leave the bench, he stopped, gathered his robes, and walked down the steps toward the defense table.

The gallery broke into hushed, excited conversations. Isaiah was being unhandcuffed by a bailiff. Overwhelmed with emotion, Isaiah rushed forward and embraced Elijah, tears streaming down his face.

"You did it, Eli... you actually did it," Isaiah sobbed.

"I told you I had your back," Elijah replied softly, cracking a genuine smile for the first time all day.

Judge Tolbert approached the two brothers. The gallery quieted down to watch.

Tolbert extended his hand toward Elijah. Elijah shook it firmly.

"Son," Judge Tolbert said, his voice sincere and respectful. "When you walked into my courtroom this morning in that oversized suit, I laughed at you. I thought you were a fool making a mockery of my court. I owe you an apology."

"No apology necessary, Your Honor," Elijah said politely. "Appearances can be deceiving."
