Before Whitney could formulate a reply, Mr. Shu reached into his inner jacket pocket, pulled out a heavy, embossed leather business card holder, and extracted a sleek, platinum-embossed card. He pressed it gently into her palm, folding her fingers over the metallic edge. “If you ever decide that you are tired of carrying wine bottles and listening to arrogant men underestimate your intellect, call that number. There is always a place for someone who can see through walls in our organization.” Whitney stared down at the card, the weight of it feeling entirely disproportionate to its size. “Thank you, Mr. Shu,” she murmured, her throat tight. With a final, dismissive glance at Gerald Covington, Mr. Shu, his wife, and his entire entourage turned their backs on table twelve and walked with measured, unhurried steps toward the grand exit of Harmon & Vine, leaving the billionaire alone amidst the wreckage of his shattered empire.
