Ethan felt cold.
“My father is dead.”
“I know.”
“Then what could he possibly have started?”
Daniel answered:
“A contingency plan.”
That night, Ethan returned to Harrison Global Tower.
He went directly to the executive archives.
He found an old computer system that had not been connected to the company's modern network.
He entered his father's name.
One file appeared.
PROJECT NIGHTFALL.
Ethan opened it.
His face went pale.
Nightfall was a secret corporate plan.
If Harrison Global ever faced financial collapse, Richard had created a mechanism to secretly transfer billions of dollars in company assets to private accounts.
The plan was illegal.
But the system was still active.
Someone was preparing to execute it.
Tomorrow.
At midnight.
Ethan immediately called internal security.
“Lock down the financial systems.”
A voice answered:
“I'm sorry, Mr. Harrison.”
“Who is this?”
“Victor Lang.”
Ethan's blood ran cold.
“You're too late.”
The call ended.
THE BETRAYAL
At 11:30 p.m., Harrison Global Tower went dark.
Not completely.
Emergency lights remained on.
But every computer system shut down.
Employees who were still working began leaving.
Security doors locked automatically.
Ethan stood inside the executive floor.
His phone had no signal.
Then the lights in the hallway turned red.
A voice came over the intercom.
“Mr. Harrison.”
Victor.
“You should have listened.”
Ethan stepped toward the security control room.
“Where are you?”
“Somewhere you can't reach.”
“What are you doing?”
“Saving the company.”
“By stealing billions?”
“By taking back what your father promised me.”
Ethan froze.
“What promise?”
Victor laughed.
“You really don't know.”
The door behind Ethan opened.
Daniel stepped inside.
“Victor helped your father.”
Ethan looked at him.
“How much?”
“More than anyone knows.”
Victor's voice came through the speakers.
“Daniel.”
Daniel looked up.
“You should have stayed invisible.”
Daniel smiled.
“I was invisible long enough.”
The building suddenly shook.
A loud alarm sounded.
Ethan looked at Daniel.
“What was that?”
“Server room.”
“Did he blow it up?”
“No.”
Daniel shook his head.
“He's trying to destroy the evidence.”
They ran.
The server room door was locked.
Daniel pulled a key from his pocket.
Ethan stared.
“You have access?”
Daniel smiled.
“I've worked here eleven years.”
The door opened.
Inside, smoke filled the room.
A man in a black jacket was destroying hard drives.
Ethan shouted:
“Stop!”
The man turned.
Victor's security chief.
He raised a weapon.
Daniel stepped in front of Ethan.
“Don't.”
The man hesitated.
Then alarms began screaming.
Security officers entered from the other side.
The man dropped the weapon.
Minutes later, Victor Lang was arrested in the basement parking garage.
But he wasn't alone.
Three accountants.
Two lawyers.
And a senior board member were arrested with him.
The conspiracy was far larger than Ethan had imagined.
But one question remained.
