Her hands began to shake as she read.

Raymond had designed the motorcycle as a test.

Not for every mechanic who came after him.

For one person.

His daughter.

He had learned about Riley late in his life and had spent years trying to find her.

But the foster system had hidden her behind records he could not access.

So Raymond had done the only thing he knew how to do.

He built something.

A machine that would wait.

A problem that could only be solved by someone patient enough to listen before touching.

Someone stubborn enough to keep searching after everyone else had given up.

Someone with his hands.

At the end of the letter were the words Riley had spent her entire life needing to hear.

I loved you before I ever met you.

Then:

Fix this engine.

Prove what you carry in your hands.

And when it runs, you will have what I always wanted to give you.

A home.

Riley read the letter three times.

Then she folded it.

Placed it against her heart.

And picked up her tools.

The Ghost in the Garage

Riley worked through the night.

Every piece of the engine was removed, photographed, measured, and cataloged.

Then Drift appeared.

He was a quiet member of Iron Legion who had known Raymond.

At first, he simply watched.

Finally, he spoke.

“He worked like that too.”

Riley looked up.

“Who?”

“Raymond.”

She kept her expression neutral.

Drift studied her hands.

“He believed a mechanic should understand something before trying to fix it.”

Riley said nothing.

Stone arrived with breakfast.

The club began helping Riley find custom parts.

Bearings.

Gaskets.

Valve guides.

Precision-machined components.

For the first time in her life, Riley watched a network of people move together because someone needed help.

She had spent seven months surviving alone.

Now dozens of people were making calls for her.

Finding suppliers.

Driving through the night.

Calling in favors.

It was strange.

And frightening.

And something inside Riley wanted desperately to trust it.

But trouble was already waiting.

That afternoon, Riley heard metal scraping against the concrete floor.

She followed the sound.

A man stood beside a drum of clean engine oil.

He was pouring metal shavings into it.

“Hey!”

The man ran.

Riley saw only one thing clearly before he disappeared.

His patch.

Road Captain.

Stone immediately called a meeting.

And Riley discovered that the greatest problem surrounding the motorcycle was not inside its engine.

It was inside the club.

Blade’s Nineteen-Year War

The Road Captain was named Blade.

When Stone accused someone of sabotaging the motorcycle, Blade stepped forward.

“She’s lying,” he said.

Riley looked at him carefully.

Blade wanted the motorcycle destroyed.

Not repaired.

Not sold.

Destroyed.

Riley confronted him.

“Why?”

For a long moment, Blade said nothing.

Then something inside him finally broke open.

“Raymond Cole killed my brother.”
