"Wallet. Show me who you are," the armed officer demanded, jutting his free hand out while keeping the gun aggressively leveled. Moving with deliberate, exaggerated slowness so as not to startle the man, Marcus reached into his back pocket. He retrieved a worn leather wallet and tossed it lightly onto the hood of a nearby parked car. The officer snatched it up, flipping it open with a scoff of pure arrogance, expecting to find a standard civilian driver's license. Instead, as the harsh suburban sunlight caught the interior of the leather flap, it illuminated a heavy, solid gold federal agent’s badge. The metallic glare reflected off the shield, catching the officer perfectly in the eyes.

The shift in the neighborhood's power dynamic was instantaneous, silent, and absolute. The fake officer’s eyes widened to the size of saucers in sheer, unadulterated panic. His jaw went entirely slack, and his previously steady hands began to tremble violently. The heavy black handgun slowly lowered, pointing uselessly at the green grass as the terrifying reality of his mistake washed over him. In the background, the HOA president noticed the sudden change in her enforcer's demeanor. She leaned forward, squinting, and as she realized what was shining in the wallet, her smug crimson facade shattered completely, replaced by a mask of pale, breathless horror. They had just pulled a loaded weapon on a high-ranking federal agent.
