It was a flawless Tomoe Nage (circle throw).

Arthur used Julian's own forward momentum against him. Julian's feet left the ground, his body flying up and completely over Arthur in a spectacular, soaring arc.

WHAM.

Julian hit the mat flat on his back, the breath driven from his lungs in a loud whoosh.

Before Julian could even comprehend what had just happened, Arthur completed his backward roll, coming up smoothly onto one knee right beside the fallen teenager. In a blur of motion, Arthur trapped Julian’s right arm between his legs, pinning the boy’s wrist against his chest, and arching his hips forward.

It was an armbar. Perfect, inescapable, and utterly locked in.

Arthur didn't crank it. He didn't apply painful pressure. He simply held it with the immovable solidity of a granite statue. Julian struggled wildly for two seconds, bucking his hips and thrashing his legs, but it was like a toddler trying to wrestle a silverback gorilla. He was completely immobilized.

Arthur leaned down, his face inches from Julian’s flushed, panic-stricken face. The quiet dad's eyes were sharp, holding a terrifying intensity that pinned Julian in place far more effectively than the submission hold.

"You have speed," Arthur said, his voice a low, calm rumble meant only for Julian's ears. "You have athleticism. You have talent. But you have no control, and you have no respect."

Julian stopped struggling, his chest heaving, his eyes wide with genuine shock and a sudden, acute realization of his own vulnerability.

"A belt only holds up your pants," Arthur continued softly. "The martial arts are about protecting the weak, not humiliating them to make yourself feel big. If you ever use your skills to bully someone in this room again, I promise you, I will notice. Do we understand each other?"

Julian swallowed hard, the arrogance thoroughly drained from his system. He gave a tiny, almost imperceptible nod. "Yes, sir."

Arthur stared at him for one more second. Then, the terrifying intensity vanished like smoke in the wind. The predator disappeared, and the quiet, slightly awkward father returned.

Arthur released the arm, stood up gracefully, and took a step back. He smoothed down his t-shirt, looked over at the astounded referee, and bowed deeply at the waist.

The dojo was completely silent. The only sound was the hum of the air conditioning and Julian’s heavy breathing as he slowly sat up, rubbing his elbow, staring at Arthur as if he had just seen a ghost.

Master Vance was frozen, his jaw slightly open, the microphone dangling limply in his hand. He had just watched his prize student get dismantled in less than sixty seconds by a man who looked like he spent his weekends doing crossword puzzles.
