Nobody noticed Evelyn Hart when she first arrived at Fort Raven.

That was exactly what she wanted.

She came through the eastern gate on a cold Monday morning wearing plain fatigues, carrying one duffel bag, and presenting paperwork that identified her as Specialist Anna Reed, temporary administrative personnel awaiting reassignment.

No medals.

No visible rank.

No expensive luggage.

No entourage.

Just another tired soldier with a forgettable face.

The guard barely looked at her identification.

"Building twelve," he said.

Evelyn nodded.

"Thank you."

He waved her through.

That was the first test.

She passed it.

Fort Raven was one of the largest military training installations in the region.

Thousands of soldiers worked there.

Hundreds of officers.

Multiple command divisions.

A sprawling medical center.

Maintenance yards.

Supply depots.

Training grounds.

Administrative buildings.

From the outside, it looked efficient.
