"Put the phone away quickly," the second officer snapped, his face contorted in a furious grimace.
"Don't touch me," Victoria stated sternly, trying to pull her arm back. Her voice remained authoritative, betraying no panic despite the physical assault. "You are exceeding your authority. You are abusing your power."
Those words—a direct challenge to their unchecked egos—finally pushed the two officers over the edge. Rational thought abandoned them, replaced entirely by a primal need to subdue the woman who dared to stand up to them.
The first traffic cop stepped in, his massive frame blocking the fading sunlight. He reached into the car, grabbed Victoria by the shoulder and her other arm, and roughly pulled her out of the driver's seat. The sheer force of the pull caused her to stumble, her feet struggling to find purchase on the gravel shoulder.
She didn't scream. She didn't flail her arms or fight back in a way that could be construed as resisting arrest. She maintained her physical composure, even as the world tilted violently around her.
As soon as she was out of the car, the first officer spun her around, turning her face toward her own vehicle, and violently pressed her upper body against the cold metal of the car door. The impact knocked the wind out of her lungs for a brief second, the side mirror digging uncomfortably into her ribs.
The second officer was right behind her. He grabbed both of her arms, twisting them behind her back with unnecessary force. Victoria winced as the joints in her shoulders screamed in protest, but she bit her lip, refusing to give them the satisfaction of hearing her cry out in pain.
There was the distinct, metallic sound of handcuffs being unpouched. Cold steel encircled her left wrist, clicking tightly into place, followed immediately by her right wrist. The ratchets clicked loudly in the quiet country air, locking her hands securely behind her back.
"Now you will sit in the department and learn to be more polite," the second officer spat, his breath hot against the back of her neck as he fastened the metal bracelets.
Victoria was now pinned against her vehicle, immobilized, illegally detained, and subjected to excessive force by the very people sworn to protect the public. The country road, once a symbol of her peaceful journey home, had become the stage for a gross miscarriage of justice. But as the officers smirked in triumph, they had no idea who they had just handcuffed.
Chapter 5: The Unbroken Spirit
The harsh reality of the cold metal biting into her wrists would have broken most people. The sheer terror of being physically overpowered and wrongfully detained by armed men on an isolated road is a nightmare scenario. But Victoria was not most people. As she stood pinned against the side of her car, her cheek resting against the cool glass of her own window, her mind was racing with terrifying clarity. She was calculating every statute they had violated, every protocol they had broken, and every right they had trampled upon.
Victoria did not scream, nor did she resist physically. She knew that any sudden movement could be used as a false pretext for further violence. Instead, she slowly turned her head, looking seriously over her shoulder at the two inspectors who were now standing back, admiring their handiwork.
"Are you sure you want to continue with this?" she asked, her voice eerily calm, cutting through the twilight like a sharpened blade.
The first officer let out a barking laugh, clearly amused by her perceived helplessness. He adjusted his belt, a gesture of arrogant triumph. "What, did you decide to try and scare us?" he mocked, shaking his head.
