Ursula was different.

She never complained.

She never asked when she would get recognition.

She simply worked.

For months, she trained before and after her regular job.

Running.

Jumping rope.

Footwork.

Defense.

Bag work.

Sparring.

Conditioning.

Again.

And again.

And again.

Raymond eventually realized that Ursula possessed something unusual.

Not raw power.

Not speed.

Something more valuable.

She could learn.

Every time somebody hit her with the same combination, she adjusted.

Every time a stronger opponent pushed her backward, she discovered a different angle.

She didn't fight emotionally.

She fought intelligently.

By the time she was twenty-five, she had become an undefeated amateur champion.

Twenty-seven fights.

Twenty-seven victories.

She had competed across several states.

Her name appeared in local newspapers.

Promoters began asking questions.

People told her she could become a professional.

But Ursula didn't want fame.

She wanted something else.

She wanted control over her life.

Then Raymond died.

Everything changed.

The gym closed.

Ursula stopped fighting.

She packed her trophies into a box.

She put her gloves in the back of a closet.

And she walked away.

Years passed.

Eventually, she moved to Atlanta.

She found work at Summit Edge.

She liked the early mornings.

She liked the silence.

She liked being anonymous.

She had no desire to become a champion again.

Until Tyler Grant decided to turn her into entertainment.

Back inside Summit Edge, Tyler bounced lightly on his feet.

The crowd gathered around the mat.

He looked relaxed.

Ursula stood across from him.

She wore plain athletic pants and a gray shirt.

No gloves.

No fancy uniform.

No championship belt.

Nothing about her appearance suggested that she had ever fought competitively.

Tyler smiled.

"You ready?"

Ursula nodded.

"Yes."

A timer was raised.

"Thirty seconds."

The room became silent.

The bell rang.

Tyler moved first.

He expected Ursula to freeze.

Instead, she moved half a step backward.

Not away.

Around.

Tyler threw a quick kick.

Ursula slipped it.

Tyler's eyes widened.

He threw another.

She moved again.

He followed.

Another kick.

She avoided it.

A murmur spread through the room.

Tyler suddenly realized something.

She wasn't reacting randomly.

She was reading him.

He stepped forward with a combination.

Ursula blocked the first strike.

Redirected the second.

And quietly stepped outside his range.

Tyler stopped.

"What are you doing?"

Ursula said nothing.

The timer continued.

Twenty seconds.

Tyler attacked harder.

He threw a spinning technique.

Ursula stepped back.

His foot cut through empty air.

The audience gasped.

Tyler landed awkwardly.

He turned.

Ursula was already standing behind his shoulder.

She could have struck him.

She didn't.

That made Tyler more embarrassed.

He attacked again.

This time Ursula caught his wrist.

Her movement was almost invisible.

She rotated his arm.

Stepped beside him.

And used his momentum to guide him to the mat.

Tyler hit the floor.

Not violently.

But completely.

The room exploded with noise.

The timer sounded.

Thirty seconds.

Ursula immediately released him.

She stepped back.

"Are you okay?"

Tyler stared up at her.

He couldn't understand what had happened.

Then Nathan Cross closed his notebook.

For the first time that evening, he smiled.

"Interesting," he said.

Ursula looked at him.

Nathan asked quietly:

"Where did you train?"

She hesitated.

"Detroit."

"With whom?"

"Raymond Ellis."

Nathan's expression changed.

He knew the name.

"Raymond Ellis?"

Ursula nodded.

Nathan looked at the crowd.

Then back at Ursula.

"You're Ursula Brooks."

She said nothing.

Nathan smiled.

"Twenty-seven wins."

The room became silent.

"Zero losses."

Tyler slowly stood.
