Natalia was fast.

Aggressive.

Confident.

The bell rang.

Natalia attacked immediately.

Lena blocked.

Countered.

Moved.

The crowd grew louder.

Natalia pushed forward.

Lena refused to panic.

The first round ended.

The second began.

Natalia changed strategy.

She attacked the body.

Lena absorbed several strikes.

Ava stood near the edge of the arena.

"Mom!"

Lena heard her.

She looked toward her daughter.

Ava was scared.

Lena smiled.

That smile changed everything.

Lena stopped fighting defensively.

She began moving forward.

One step.

Two.

Natalia attacked.

Lena slipped.

Counter.

Natalia backed away.

Another attack.

Lena redirected it.

Then swept Natalia's leg.

Natalia fell.

The referee stopped the action.

The crowd erupted.

Lena had won.

Ava ran toward her.

Lena knelt.

"Are you okay?"

Ava laughed.

"I'm fine!"

"You scared me."

"You scared me!"

They hugged.

For the first time in years, Lena didn't care who was watching.

She wasn't hiding.

She wasn't protecting a secret.

She was simply a mother hugging her daughter.

But across the arena, someone else was watching.

An older man.

Gray hair.

Dark coat.

He had seen Lena fight.

And he knew her past.

His name was Victor Hale.

Lena's former manager.

The man who had tried to control her career twenty years ago.

And he had not come to congratulate her.

He had come to offer her something.

Something that could destroy everything she had built.

The Price of Coming Back

Victor approached Lena after the tournament.

"Lena."

She turned.

Her smile disappeared.

"Victor."

Ava looked between them.

"Mom?"

"It's okay."

Victor smiled.

"You've changed."

"So have you."

"Not really."

Lena looked at him.

"Why are you here?"

"I heard you were fighting again."

"I'm not interested in your business."

"You haven't heard my offer."

"I don't need to."

Victor lowered his voice.

"Five million dollars."

Lena stared at him.

"For what?"

"Three exhibition fights."

"No."

"Ten million."

"No."

"You're not even going to hear the terms?"

"I know your terms."

Victor smiled.

"Do you?"

"You'll want control."

"Naturally."

"You'll want my name."

"Naturally."

"You'll want my daughter kept away from the media."

Victor paused.

Lena continued.

"And you'll want me to lose at least one fight so your sponsors can create a comeback story."

Victor smiled.

"You remember me well."

"I remember everything."

He stepped closer.

"Then you know how much money you're turning down."

Lena looked toward Ava.

"I've already earned the only thing I ever wanted."

Victor frowned.

"What?"

She smiled.

"Freedom."

She walked away.

But Victor wasn't finished.

The next morning, a story appeared online.

Former champion Lena Brooks returns to combat sports.

The article included details that Lena had never shared publicly.

Her marriage.

Her pregnancy.

Her retirement.

Even photographs of Ava.

Lena's blood ran cold.

Victor had done it.

He was using her daughter to force her hand.

She called him.

"What do you want?"

"Now you're listening."

"You mentioned my daughter."

"I mentioned public interest."

"If one photograph of her appears again, I'll destroy you."

Victor laughed.

"You've become emotional."

"No."

Lena's voice was calm.

"I'm becoming very clear."

She hung up.

Then she called Samuel.

"I need help."

Samuel didn't ask questions.

"Come to the dojo."

When Lena arrived, Derek, Marcus, and Jonah were there.

She explained everything.

Jonah was furious.

"He threatened your daughter?"

"Indirectly."

Derek shook his head.

"That's not business."

Marcus looked at Lena.

"What do you want to do?"

Lena thought.

"I want to make sure he can't use me again."

Samuel nodded.

"Then fight."

Lena looked at him.

"Against Victor?"

"No."

He smiled.

"Against everyone."

All Three

Victor organized the exhibition event.

It was designed to be spectacular.

Lights.

Cameras.

Sponsors.

Thousands of fans.

He announced that Lena would face one of the country's top fighters.

But when Lena arrived, she discovered something different.

The opponent wasn't one fighter.

It was three.

Derek.

Marcus.

Jonah.

Victor stood in the center of the arena.

"People want to know whether Lena Brooks is really back."
