A family whose house had lost power.

Nobody cared that Damon had beaten him.

They cared that Damon was useful.

Travis stood near the doorway.

Damon noticed him.

"Need something?"

Travis shook his head.

Then he saw a fallen tree blocking the road.

Without thinking, he stepped outside.

He helped Damon move branches.

For two hours, they worked side by side.

No fighting.

No audience.

No championship.

Just work.

At midnight, Travis finally spoke.

"Why didn't you hurt me?"

Damon kept cutting branches.

"Because you were already hurting."

Travis looked away.

That answer stayed with him.

 10 — The Watch

The next morning, Tessa discovered her father's watch missing.

She panicked.

Damon searched the garage.

Nothing.

Then Travis appeared.

He held the watch in his palm.

Tessa stared.

"Where did you get that?"

"It fell near the road."

She reached for it.

Travis handed it over.

"I didn't steal it."

"I know."

He looked at Damon.

"Your father gave it to you?"

"My dad gave it to me."

Travis nodded.

"Why?"

Tessa smiled.

"Because he trusts me."

Travis looked at Damon.

For the first time, there was no arrogance in his expression.

Only respect.

Damon nodded once.

That was enough.

 11 — The Real Challenge

Months passed.

Travis continued training.

But his coach noticed something different.

He was calmer.

He listened.

He learned defense.

He stopped fighting for attention.

Eventually, Travis returned to Damon.

"Would you train me?"

Damon laughed.

"No."

Travis nodded.

"I thought you'd say that."

"Why?"

"Because you don't train people who want to prove something."

Damon studied him.

"What do you want?"

Travis answered honestly.

"I want to become someone my father doesn't have to buy out of trouble."

Damon was silent.

Then he said:

"That's a better goal."

 Tessa's Choice

Tessa had been watching everything.

She began learning self-defense from her father.

Not fighting.

Awareness.

Balance.

De-escalation.

She learned how to recognize danger before it became a confrontation.

One afternoon she asked:

"Do you think I could beat Travis?"

Damon smiled.

"That's the wrong question."

"What's the right one?"

"Could you protect yourself?"

She thought about it.

"Yes."

"Then that's enough."

Tessa nodded.

She finally understood why her father had always refused to call himself a fighter.

He was something else.

A protector.

  The Rematch Nobody Expected

One year after their first confrontation, Cedar Ridge held another summer festival.

Travis entered the charity exhibition.

He was now eighteen.

He had won several regional tournaments.

But before stepping into the ring, he approached Damon.

"One round."

Damon shook his head.

"No."

"Please."

Damon studied him.

Then he looked at Tessa.

She smiled.

"Go easy on him."

Damon laughed.

Travis smiled.

"That's what I'm afraid of."

They stepped onto the mat.

This time, Travis didn't attack immediately.

He waited.

Damon waited.

The crowd watched.

Then Travis bowed.

Damon bowed back.

They touched gloves.

The match began.

Travis moved carefully.

Damon countered.

Travis adjusted.

For the first time, the young champion wasn't fighting to prove himself.
