Defeated, humiliated, and aware that every camera in the hallway was capturing his downfall, Miller slowly reached for his belt. With shaking hands, he unclipped his gold badge and unholstered his sidearm, handing them over to his junior officer.

"You are suspended without pay effective immediately, pending a formal internal affairs investigation and criminal assault charges," Chief Vance stated, her voice echoing off the high marble walls. "Leave the building."

Without another word, Miller lowered his head and walked down the long corridor, passing dozens of his fellow officers and citizens who watched him in total silence. The very hallway where he had asserted brutal dominance minutes ago had now become the stage of his ultimate disgrace.

Chief Vance turned her attention back to the gathered crowd, including the officers standing in attendance. The atmosphere in the courthouse had fundamentally shifted. The era of unchecked authority and systemic abuse had come to a sudden, dramatic halt.

"To every officer in this department," Chief Vance announced, her voice ringing clear and strong, "let this be your first and only warning. The culture of intimidation, racial profiling, and arrogance is over. From this moment forward, accountability is not an option—it is the standard. If you cannot respect the community you serve, you will not wear this uniform."

A wave of applause broke out among the citizens and court staff who had witnessed the event. Even several younger officers, including Officer Cole, nodded in silent approval.

Later that afternoon, Chief Evelyn Vance sat behind the desk in the executive office at police headquarters. The large oak desk was clear except for a few personnel files and her official badge resting in a velvet box.

Judge Sterling knocked gently on the open door frame before stepping inside, holding two cups of coffee. He set one down on her desk and took a seat opposite her.
