"I am not asking you again!" Miller roared, the sound echoing through the dense canopy of Georgia pines.

Inside the cabin, Dr. Evelyn Vance did not flinch. Her hands remained impeccably steady at the ten and two positions on the steering wheel. She took a slow, measured breath, steeling herself for what her logical mind already calculated was inevitable. She closed her eyes just as Miller drew his arm back.

SMASH.

The first strike of the steel baton hit the driver's side window with the force of a sledgehammer. But this was a Bentley Continental GT; the glass was multi-layered, acoustically insulated, and fiercely resilient. The window didn't shatter into a thousand pieces—it spider-webbed, a chaotic network of fractured lines spreading from the point of impact.

The resistance of the glass only fueled Miller's blind rage. He struck again. And again. CRACK. CRACK. SHATTER.

On the third ferocious swing, the structural integrity of the window gave way. A shower of tempered glass pebbles exploded into the cabin, spraying across the luxurious leather interior and raining down on Evelyn’s charcoal blazer. A sharp fragment grazed her cheek, drawing a thin, vivid line of crimson blood, but she remained remarkably still, shielding her eyes with a slight turn of her head.

"Unlock the damn doors!" Miller screamed, his face contorted into a mask of pure, adrenaline-fueled fury. He didn't stop at the driver's window. Driven by a maniacal need to completely dismantle her sanctuary, he moved to the rear passenger window. SMASH. The glass caved in. He rounded the trunk of the vehicle, his boots crunching wildly on the gravel, and swung the baton at the rear passenger side. SMASH. Then the front passenger window. SMASH.

Within forty-five seconds, the pristine, midnight-black luxury vehicle was transformed into a jagged, hollowed-out shell. The cold November wind howled through the shattered cabin, whipping Evelyn’s hair across her face. Glass littered the floorboards, sparkling like crushed ice under the amber glow of the dashboard lights.

Miller stood outside the passenger door, chest heaving, his knuckles white around the grip of his baton. He had physically dismantled the barrier, but as he looked at Evelyn, he realized with a sinking dread that he hadn't broken her spirit. She was looking at him through the hollow frame of the passenger window, her expression entirely devoid of fear. It was an expression of absolute, calculated pity.

As the last piece of safety glass fell from the window frame, bouncing off the pristine center console, the digital clock on the Bentley’s dashboard silently rolled over.

12:00 AM.

Midnight. The exact moment the dynamic of the night irrevocably shifted.

Evelyn slowly reached her right hand over to her left shoulder, calmly brushing the glittering shards of glass off her blazer. She dabbed the small cut on her cheek with a perfectly manicured finger, inspecting the drop of blood before looking back at the heavily panting officer.
